Everything you ever wanted to know about St Thomas....and MORE!!!

Best Buds

Recommended Posts

We read everything we could about St Thomas in the last 6 months and every time we came on something helpful we wrote it down and then put it all on a mini-website at bestbuds.xoompages.com. It now includes all the great beaches (which are best for snorkeling and which have the most watertoys), the best bars and the best restaurants, the best and worst excursions, the cheapest and fastest ways to get around the island, every single attraction worth mentioning, the danger spots to avoid, the places to rent everything from scooters to jeeps and boats and we included a few photos and enough good maps to get you started.

(Yes, it does take some time to download but if you have lots of questions about St Thomas; it is well worth the wait!)

The best part of all is that we included ALL the hyperlinks to websites that we used to help us plan our very own Eastern Caribbean cruise! And just recently we added a list of all the favorite tunes recommended by cruisecritic members to get them in the cruising mood!

We'll be leaving for St Thomas on October 6th and we don't need this information any more....but maybe you do!!!!

Ummm, I've read up to 3 pages so far, and there are several inaccuracies in your report. It's a good starting point for information, but because things constantly change, it's a good idea to double-check before planning on using some of the resources mentioned.

Most notably - NO public transportation ($2 safari/VITRAN bus) goes to Magen's Bay Beach or Mountaintop - EVER! Public transportation tends to avoid the hilly areas. You can get to Coki, Sapphire, and Lindbergh beaches using public transporation, but you'll have to walk approximately 1/4 mile from the drop-off point.

The AT&T telecom center is closed. Havensight Cafe, which is very close to the cruise ship dock at Havensight, offers Internet access starting at $2, and QuickPics, also in Havensight, rents phones and sells phone cards. There are other Internet services in the area, too, and there are a few phone booths in Havensight, but they're pretty busy.

There's an information booth right at Havensight. It's an excellent source for information on St Thomas. They'll probably have current information for any question a visitor might have.

Thanks for the update, Ms411! We agree...please double-check any information you might find on the mini-website. We have never been to the Caribbean before (until October 6, 2006!!!!) and mostly repeated information we found in guidebooks, on websites or posted on cruisecritic threads over the last 6 months. Anything could have changed since the original posting and much of it just really boils down to someone's personal opinion about places and things anyway. Still, it was extremely helpful to us and we appreciate everyone's efforts--good or bad. And, of course, all the hyperlinks to the latest island and cruising websites will always be accurate and informative. Please know that we intend to follow-up on your leads and make appropriate changes to our website when we come back home!! Thank you again for your valuable input!
