Legend 9-17 Review

I'll be posting this in parts as I go through my pictures and try and recall where I was each day (and wishing I was still there). Returning to realty really stinks. I had to make my own coffee this morning.

Embarkation:

We were on the cruise that sailed late from New York due to a medical emergency from the cruise prior to ours. We arrived at the pier at 7:45 pm and were on board at 9:30. It really wasn't to bad - but I think they could do a much better job in New York at the terminal.

When you arrive you walk into Pier 90 and get in line to register. If the line becomes to long they move the people waiting on the line to row's of seats set up to sit and wait. Then in fairly large groups you go through another set of doors and wait in line again for the registration. Once you complete your paperwork you are directed out of this building and over to Pier 92 to wait in line again to receive your sail and sign card. Then you wait in another line to have your photo taken for the sail and sign card.

My opinion - three lines - far to many - and the walking through one terminal, across the pier and to another terminal is far to much. I'll compare this to sailing from Tampa on the Miracle last year - One line - everything done at the desk and you were done. If you have any kind of a medical problem that restricts your ability to walk and you don't use a wheelchair - this can be pretty strenuous, be prepared. (my mom has emphysema and uses oxygen - she can walk on her own and does not use a wheelchair - but this would have been extremely tough for her to manage and would have taken forever to do. She did not come on this cruise with me). There were alot of people carrying tote bags loaded with stuff that were complaining. I use my small suitcase with wheels which made it alot easier then carrying around something.

Once on board it was well organized. We went directly to our rooms to drop off our carry on. Then right up on deck for our first foo foo drink of the trip. As we arrived at the terminal we were given a printout with the changes to the sailing. We were scheduled to sail after 10 pm. Finally left New York a little after midnight. Of course, sailing out of New York after dark was beautiful. The city so lite up. Even lady liberty shined at night. Pretty exhausting day - so we retired for the evening after the sail away - unpacked and were ready to start to our vacation.

More later - need to get ready to go to work - yuk!!!!

This is unusual. That must have happened because of the delay getting back. The ship is normally in pier 90 so there is no walking. We went out on the first and it was all in one place, at least, that is what I remember.

The lines are normal though. We had a normal embarkation and there were different lines depending on the deck(?) or part of the ship, I'm not sure, but they were different. Once we checked in, it was off to the line to get on board, picture taken and that was it.

I hope the rest of your trip was fun. Getting on and off the ship are usually not the fun parts.

This was probably done due to the circumstances and crowd control.

Usually, once you enter you assigned terminal, that's the terminal you board from.

But like another poster stated, you may not return to the same terminal you left from. We never have. But we wheel our luggage to the curb while I run to get the car, as you have to pass level two anyway to leave.

The three segment things works for me the couple of times I've gotten "stuck". With one line, with luggage, you're always moving your STUFF every few seconds. With the three segments, at least your stationary until it's time to process, but you're still holding your "place".

What really stinks is the skippers club is on the other side of security, so you have to line up will all the others.

We started the day with the MUSTER DRILL - nothing dramatic and went pretty quickly. No hiding passengers trying to escape the drill. It was at 10 am - so it was a little early.

First trip to the Casino - joined the slot tournament - came in first in the preliminary round. Received the T-shirt for getting into the finals and a pretty nice golf shirt for being first in the preliminary. Lost the finals - the lady who won it was her birthday - nice present for her. Played Bino (didn't win that either)

Spent sometime getting acquainted with the ship, eating and relaxing by the pool.

First formal night and the Captain's cocktail party. Lobster tails and prime rib. The food was very very good. Our head waiter was Svorn - it was his first trip on this ship. He was a little stiff the first night, but after that he was alot of fun.

Went to the internet cafe and signed up for the plan (we purchased 100 minutes for $55.00) using someone else's suggestion on this board to draft emails off line and then getting on line to send and receive was a wonderful idea. We actually had 15 minutes left at the end of the cruise. No credit for the unused minutes issued - we asked.

We had a laptop with us and it worked all over the ship - except on deck 5 where our cabin was located.

After dinner we went to the Firebird Lounge for the first night of tryouts for the Carnival Legends show. It was very enjoyable and I give those passengers alot of credit for getting up and singing (some of them shouldn't have) but some of them were really very good.

It was a long day that flew by very quickly.

More later - off to yuck work again

p.s. - I'm still rocking and rolling !
