MaggieS Posted September 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2006 Was just in Barcelona this past Spring and ate at Los Caricoles and La Crema. Am wondering about La Fonda. Anyone have any other suggestions for good restaurants in the vacinity? My husband didn't like Las Caricoles due to the heat, crowded tables etc. I have eaten there multiple times over the last 25 years and loved it. Oh well. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. We will be there next week. We are both very adventuresome with food and love good food.
Susan-M Posted September 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2006 We enjoyed Les Quinze Nitz in Placa Reial - not sure if I would call it adventuresome, but the food is decent and prices are very reasonable .... and it's extremely popular judging by the line up of people waiting to get in each night. http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/albums-en/placa-reial/pages/placa-reial-01_jpg.html http://www.alamy.com/stock_photography/10/2/travelstock44.de/AXBHF6.html

The food was very good and quite reasonable for Barcelona. It was a little difficult at first to find since you had to go down Las Ramblas and kind of walk thru some small streets. Get there early and you can sit outside in the Plaza ...order drinks and relax and walk the street artists (of course, they are aiming for a tip). BCNlady Posted September 28, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2006 For a restaurant selection in Barcelona you can read my post Some help and answers from a barceloner. http://http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=380847 If you want quiet restaurants I will recommend: Café de l'Acadèmia, Pl. Sant Just 933198253 in a quiet square just bach the town hall. I don't think you will find tourists there. Nice terrace. Merendero de la Mari, Pl. Pau Vila. Port Vell. 932213141 http://merenderodelamari.com . Good sea food and paella. Very nice terrace over old port. Els Quatre gats Montsió 3, 933024140. An historical restaurant as artists (Picasso...) and intellectuals went there on the early XX century. Good menu for lunch. Near Portal del Angel. Hope it helps Bea
JudyD Posted September 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 28, 2006 Bea, I have a question. I have an ATM (automatic teller machine) card connected to my savings account (no Visa or Mastercard symbol). It is a PLUS card (symbol on the back). Can you use that at banks in Barcelona or does it have to be a Visa or MC card? thanks, Judy

It is a PLUS card (symbol on the back). Can you use that at banks in Barcelona Judy Judy - we brought two ATM cards (savings/checking account) from different banks, one "plus" and one without the "plus" symbol. Both had "interac" symbols. Our "Plus" card did not work in Positano and Dubrovnik, but the other card did. We didn't use one in Barcelona ... but just thought I'd mention our experience in other places. cruisecruzer Posted September 29, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2006 I would check with your credit card company and bank before you use them. I was in barcelona last September and used my atm card at Citibank....there is a fee to withdraw money from your own account. There is a fee to charge items ranging from 1% to 3% depending on the credit card company that you have

BCNlady Posted September 29, 2006 #10 Share Posted September 29, 2006 Has anyone been to the Restaurant, 7 Portes, at Passeig d Isabel? I did a search on the board and nothing. 7 Portes is said to be the oldest restaurant in town. Very known for paella, especially "Paella parellada". Nice place, no terrace. It's just back the old port. Bea
dusababy Posted September 29, 2006 #11 Share Posted September 29, 2006 GOOGLE - Siete Puertas Barcelona Spain You'll get the reviews -- good one under Virtual Tourist. Siete Puertas -- 7 ports -- I've been going there since first visit in early 1990s. You will not be disappointed. I plan to go there again - late lunch off Wind in BCN October 27.
