QE2 2 Night Cruise

Recommended Posts

I see that the 2 night cruise for 2006 to Zeebrugge is taking place this weekend. We are taking the in-laws as a surprise in October 2007 and would be interested to know how this short trip is treated by Cunard. Do they have a gala night? Is the excursion worth doing, or should we stay on the ship? Does the ship have all facilities open as usual?

All feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy your trip for those travelling this weekend.

FYI - We are in a Queens Grill room, never travelled on QE2 previously, but on Celebrity Century and just back from Costa Atlantica (a report of that to come elsewhere).

Hi TopCat,

We've just got back from a 3 night trip on QE2 (13th Oct 06) where we sailed to Guernsey. All facilities were open as per usual and further entertainment was put on as we were not able to tender into Guernsey. We did have one formal night, so hopefully there will be a chance to get the glad rags on!

QE2 is a magnificent old ship which can appear a little dated when compared to the newer "superliners". But she has a charm and an elegance all her own and I think she might just have enough time to work her magic on you in two days!

We travelled in the Queens Grill on this last trip and it sure does make a difference when compared to some of the Mauretania cabins! Food was superb in Queens Grill, though staff seemed a little out of sorts. Entertainment seems to have improved greatly since two/three years ago when that was the only thing that let her down. If they have the show Apassionata... Go and see it! Very good! We like the Chart Room bar which is a lovely place to go for a pre dinner drinky or just to have a chat and watch the passengers go by! See if you can find the Champagne bar (Princess Grill Bar) on 1 Deck as thats normally empty!

We did do another 2 nighter into Zebrugge, but did not get off, so can't comment on tours unfortunately. We're doing the two nighter to Zeebrugge in December this year, so we'll let you know how we get on!

All in all... enjoy the QE2, one of our last great Ocean Liners and turn a blind eye to her slightly faded edges!! You'll have a great time!

Kind regards

Karen

how this short trip is treated by Cunard.

I can only speak of my experience, the one nighters l would say are not taken seriously, and yet this should be a showcase for the new comers,There is quite a lot of the "they are only one nighters and wont be back attitude"

Certainly on the one nighter in July a lot of people didnt enjoy it or even rate it highly, and most vowed not to come back!!

Certainly they gave you a taste of life aboard. but even the 3 days are not long enough

Having done the longer cruises l find anything over 10 days you get to experience the real QE2 and her passengers.

Of course it might depend on where you dine? lm always in the mauretania and have always been perfectly happy with the service etc..

cheers

Myles

ps you would NEVER EVER have a hen party on a Med cruise

Thanks Karen, that is a really useful update. We are really looking forward to travelling on such a wonderful ship, the Champagne Bar sounds great!! Glad to hear they do the formal night, would be disappointed if that isn't the case. I look forward to hearing back about your trip in December.
