Try surfing to this NCL web page for answers to your internet questions.

cassie, i work in ITand consider my laptop and extension of my person.

i understand how your DH might want/need access. last year on the sun i took my laptop and bought the 100 min. package on embarkation day. i got and extra 10 min. for purchasing that day and an extra 20 for being a latitudes member. if they are running those specials again, you can get 130 minutes for $55 which isn't too bad considering....

actually, as it turns out... i only used about 95 minutes total so didn't even need them all. i plan to take my laptop again and will probably do the same. i did most work i needed to do off-line and then uploaded stuff as needed when i connected. the in-room connections are dialup speed so you really need to go to the wireless hotspots to get decent thru-put. they are on deck 5/6/7 atrium, library, pool deck, and a couple of others. if you use your own email account thru a web interface, you will not have to pay the personal email fee. that is only if you use your ship assigned email account.

if you do decide to leave the laptop at home there are pcs on deck 6 atrium area for connecting to the internet. you still have to buy a minutes package.

if you decide to avoid the ship all-together, there is an internet cafe near the dock in belize with is really cheap. i think there is also one in cozumel, but i haven't used it. the other two ports are new to me so i can't speak to those.

if your dh has specific questions about the ships internet, post them and i'll try to answer.

Those prices are up there. He might have to leave his computer at home and go cold turkey for the week. Maybe there will be internet cafe at some of the ports we visit.

They're expensive because they are using a satellite feed. It would take a very long (1,000 miles) land line to keep the ship online.

I think the prices would be worth it to him. I guess not being a computer person, maybe I just don't understand . Vacation to me is not having to check in with the guys at work or wear my cell phone like its an extra limb or something.

I think it is less expensive than the bars or the casino. Much like the bars and casino, you are a captive audience, so they can get away with a high markup.

Many cruise ships including NCL are outsourced to MTN:

There are cheaper alternatives in the ports, but then that subtracts from your port time, so perhaps not so cheap.

This is great info and more informative than the NCL site. Will send this to my DH

Also tell your DH you receive an extra 10% of your minutes purchased if bought on the first day. There is also a five hundred minute raffle for those who purchase of the first day. One thing that must be noted is that you will be working off a sattelite connection which has no guaranteed speed. I found the closer to port we were the faster connection we had (it was pretty fast while we were in N.O.).

All in all, I'd say it was worth the money we spent. I used the 'net to post here (for the first few days  ) and send some emails and such. On the last day it was great becuase while everyone else was sitting around bored, we were surfing the net waiting for our colour to be called.
