FrannyK Posted November 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2006 We leave on the Liberty next Sunday for the 6-day cruise. I know Monday is formal night, and Thursday is "optional" formal night? Is that correct? Thursday also happens to be Thanksgiving--what would the appropriate dress be for men? (We ladies know what we're wearing :)). We usually take cruises of less than one week so have never experienced two possible formal nights one one cruise. My DH is wondering what men bring for these nights? Two suits? A suit and sports coat? He also has a tux but it doesn't seem like many wear them on cruises we've been on in the past. Cruzman Posted November 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2006 You can expect to see plenty of tuxes on formal night on the Liberty. I always wore mine until I lost about 40 lbs and it no longer fits, lol. I plan to simply bring a dark suit with a couple of different ties; no big thing. Hope to see you onboard. I'll be one of those with the Mardi Gras beads when we board, lol.

We are going to be right there with you next Sunday!!!! :D We have been wondering the same thing. I told DH to plan on Khakis for the dining room on Thanksgiving with the option of wearing his suit from formal night with a different tie. That way if the Capers inform us that it is a dressier night, he will be prepared. But we are looking so forward to the beach in Costa Maya that we may not even make it to dinner since we usually have earlier seating. I assume that the buffet will also have Turkey and dressing although I am not much for the buffet on the ship. So are you packed yet??
Cotton Posted November 11, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2006 From my experience, on the second 'formal' night, most of the men were in sports coats, tie, slacks, but some were in dress shirts, tie, Dockers/khakis - no coat.

It sounds really bad! I hope that the reports are exaggerated. Just talked to my TA and he has heard nothing about it. The report suggests that there may be as many as 1000 cases onboard. I think we may have a delayed departure while the ship is disinfected.
Lv2Camp&Cruise Posted November 11, 2006 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Have you read the recent post about the Norovirus outbreak? It sounds really bad! I hope that the reports are exaggerated. Just talked to my TA and he has heard nothing about it. The report suggests that there may be as many as 1000 cases onboard. I think we may have a delayed departure while the ship is disinfected. We talked to a Carnival Rep and of course he says that there is no record of an outbreak on any of their ships at this time. He said that there may be a virus that a passenger could have brought on board but there is no confirmed outbreak. I figure that either he just doesn't know or else is trained well for public relations. We are heading to Wal Mart this afternoon to stock up on Clorox wipes, anti bac gel, and possible some Airborne. Also, the toiletry bag will have plenty of Immodium and tylenol, just in case. We are on the Lido deck so I am going to try to use our cabin restroom and avoid the common ones as much as possible. I also will be diligent about hand washing, especially after casino time. I may skip the buffet unless I see that the staff is serving rather than having the spoons turned towards the passengers for self service. We wil be staying at the Grande the night before. Our lap top is on the fritz so I don't guess we will be able to monitor the boards to see how embarkation is proceeding. We may just have to hang out at the port to see if there is a delay.
