Hawaii Cruise on NCL-SUN or Aloha?

I'm trying to help my parents out and find a little info out about the available longer itineraries for Hawaii. Is the Sun still doing the one from Vancover to Hawaii? What ship is better POA or the Sun? My dad likes the price of the airfare for the Sun cruise but likes the POA because they would spend more time in Hawaii. They usually take RCCL but the hawaii cruises are expensive and limited with them.

Any suggestions are appeciated.

Yes, the Sun's reposition from Vancouver to Honolulu will still occur. Added onto that cruise is the Sun's very next cruise from Honolulu to Ensenada (San Diego). That cruise will be followed by a Panama Canal cruise from San Diego to Miami. So, there's plenty of long cruises in store for the Sun next fall.

The Norwegian Sun was built two years after the Pride of Aloha. It's design was modified and modernized more than the Pride of Aloha, although both were built on the same hull and machinery designs. So, the Sun is slightly better than the Pride of Aloha, for your money. But that doesn't mean the Pride of Aloha is a ship to avoid at all costs.

The new Norwegian Pearl has different cabins and public rooms than the now five year old Norwegian Dawn although both were also built on the same hull and machinery designs, I wouldn't dare suggest the Pearl is vastly superior to the Dawn. Some would argue the opposite.

The same princilple applies between the Pride of Aloha and Norwegian Sun.

electricron,

Does the Aloha have a casino? I don't think it matters either way because my parents don't like to gamble but i didn't think i saw one on the deck plans. Maybe because it's registered in the U.S. and something with regulations???? I leave for the Sun in 12 days so, if they did decide on that one I would be able to give them a better idea of what to expect.

None of the Pride ships of NCLA's fleet have casinos. Although NCL would love to have them, the state of Hawaii forbids them. Therefore no casinos.

I'm not sure whether the Sun on its repositioning Hawaiian cruises can use her casino in route to Hawaii, but she surely won't be able to open it in Hawaiian waters.

If I were you I would book the Pride of Aloha with its longer intinerary this fall.

The Pride of Aloha doesn't have any gambling equipment aboard. What was the casino is now the Hawaii Learning Center.

We were on the Pride of Aloha in May. You have to think of it as your floating hotel. You have a very long time to really see each island. I have been to the Islands about 40 times and this was a very nice vacation to see what I had missed before. We did two excursions and the rest was rent a car. The Honolulu day was on Sunday and we took THE BUS to the flea market at the football stadium. The cruise is not like the typical cruise so dont think of it that way and you will have a great time.
