Pincus Posted July 24, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2004 Hi, does any know who the current butlers are on the Sky Deck of the Galaxy? While I know they are ALL great, some have different styles... Any one know? Thanks.
Lotsacruising Posted July 24, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2004 I was on the May transatlantic in a sky suite on the sky deck. WE had vasant as our butler. Not the best one I had. He made every request seem like it was a huge effort. We did not ask for much more than a couple of cappaciunos each day and tipped him the recommended amount. He seemed quite disappointed at the tip. Oh well we loved the cruise anyway!:o
gkm Posted July 25, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2004 We're doing the September transatlantic, and also have a Sky Suite. What was your cabin number? I'm curious if we will have him. Thanks, Garry
PBungay Posted July 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted July 25, 2004 We're Garry's neighbors, and are wondering the same thing. It will probably be someone different anyway, but thanks for the heads up on the individual. This is our first suite, and I really want it to be right for my wife, who's so looking forward to it...

We buy the suites because of the Butler service...otherwise we might just as well take the CC accommodations. We had a butler once who was too busy, he said, because one of the butlers didn't show up for the cruise, and he had too many cabins to handle. In truth, that's not the passenger's problem, but whose is it? Does anyone have experience in dealing with a butler who "made every request seem like it was a huge effort." Thanks for any reply. davis0056 Posted July 25, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2004 We had a butler on a Princess cruise that we thought was terrible. We don't know for sure because we literally never saw him. The last evening Dave and I had a discussion on appropriate tipping and after some discussion agreed to give him the recommended amount upon departure. On the last morning the butlers were supposed to assist and escort their clients off the ship. Ours was standing in line and ignored us. We decided we could play the same game and left the ship with his envelope-and tip--in our hand, ready to give him if he would have just stepped up to assist us. Our evaluation made it it very clear our opinion of him. We've since decided to stick with great cabins off the aft of the M ships. We wouldn't know what to do with them anyway. We have a housekeeper come in once a week to clean our house and we feel awkward to see her doing the chores that in the past we always did ourselves. Guest alexMD Posted July 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 25, 2004 Desmond was our butler on our last Galaxy cruise. He is undoubtably the best I have ever had. You should be so lucky.
Lotsacruising Posted July 25, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 25, 2004 we were in sky suite 1221 on the galaxy on may 7 2004. Now that I have heard how wonderful some of the others are, I will be expecting more from my butler on my next cruises. :)
gkm Posted July 25, 2004 #9 Share Posted July 25, 2004 On the Century one butler had the even numbers and one had the odd numbers on the Sky Deck. Vasant was the butler for 1221 (odd), so now I'm wondering if Desmond was the butler on the even side. Alex, was your cabin an even number??? We're in cabin 1212 so are hopeful that Desmond is ours. We had Richard on the Century, which was our first experience with one, and he was fabulous! Thanks! Garry
Matador Posted July 25, 2004 #10 Share Posted July 25, 2004 lucky me! We have cabin 1221 on the september transatlantic! I wonder if Visant will still be "servicing" this cabin??? lotsacruising - how did you like the balcony on 1221? Was it much smaller than the other balconies on the sky deck (it seems to have more cut-out than the other balconies according the ship deck plans)? thanks. matador
Guest alexMD Posted July 25, 2004 #11 Share Posted July 25, 2004 ... okay, I checked and BOY was I wrong... maybe I'm just taking too many cruises, but my better half reminds me that I was last on the Mercury, cabin 1222, and Desmond was my butler. So... I apologize for the misinformation.

gkm Posted July 26, 2004 #13 Share Posted July 26, 2004 Hi Roy, from what I've heard, 1212 is one of the best cabins on the Galaxy. Lucky us!:D I'll definitely take some pictures in September. Garry
Lotsacruising Posted July 26, 2004 #14 Share Posted July 26, 2004 Lucky me: The cabin (1221) is excellent! The balcony was huge. I loved it, just be sure to be strict with Visant. Enjoy:p

civerolo Posted November 9, 2004 #17 Share Posted November 9, 2004 Has anyone been on the Galaxy lately? Who were the butlers? Did we ever figure out what ship Desmond is on? We had him on the Century last Christmas and he was the best ever. We will be on the Galaxy in April (SS1228) and wonder who we will get and how they are? Anyone know? gkm Posted November 13, 2004 #20 Share Posted November 13, 2004 On our Galaxy transatlantic in October, Franklyn was our butler. He was wonderful, and you could tell he really liked his job. If I remember correctly, he still has about 3 more months to go on his contract, so is still there. We were in Cabin 1212 and there are a couple of pictures on the last page (7) of it--one of the cabin and one of the veranda. Garry

ccletzgo Posted November 14, 2004 #22 Share Posted November 14, 2004 Karl was great. He seemed a little shy, but you can get him to warm up. We brought in a bucket of beer from the pool and restocked it from a case we bought while in port. He kept ice on it all week. He was great. Just this DH said, we should have brought him home. (I didnt get up and make coffee)
carkosh Posted November 14, 2004 #23 Share Posted November 14, 2004 We had Challs on the Galaxy Nov. 1 cruise. He was great! We did have a RS but I think they switch around at times. He said he would be on the Galaxy through March 2005. If any of you do get Challs I hope you will like him as much as we did. Carol
civerolo Posted February 27, 2005 #24 Share Posted February 27, 2005 Thought I heard the butlers on the Galaxy are changing at the end of March. We are sailing on April 2nd. Anybody know if this is true? Who has been in a Galaxy Sky Suite lately? Who was your butler? Anybody had Desmond as a butler lately? RAYMORRA Posted February 27, 2005 #25 Share Posted February 27, 2005 We are sailing on March 21st on Galaxy but have an inside cabin on the sky deck.....do the butlers take care of these rooms as well? I've heard that sometimes the inside cabins get a few extra ammenities just because of their location....do any of you know this to be true?
