PASSPORT vs BIRTH CERTIFICATE

A Passport is a verified form of United States Identification with a photo of you and a number issued by the United States informing other countries or persons who you are and that you are a United States Citizen. And I believe one is needed for foreign travel everywhere in the World. Some countries even require a Visa besides your Passport.

A birth certificate is a document that the state issued upon your birth. Does not generally have a photo or description of you as an adult. It usually tells what you weighed and length at birth. And if you are female, doesn't necessarily have the same name that your passport would have.

While you do need a birth certificate and a photo ID to apply for a Passport, once you have the Passport, you only need new photos every 10 years to renew the Passport.

Hope this clarifies things for you. Get your passport, it will be needed more in the future than ever before.

Even if you aren't required to have a passport for your cruise, I would strongly recommend you have one...

With the recent change in requirements, you wouldn't be able to fly into the US from outside the US without a passport. So if you don't have one and you have a medical emergency or there was an emergency at home while on the ship you wouldn't be able to fly home.

It doesn't make sense to cruise without a passport any longer.
