upgrades with military rate

I have Booked a Balcony Guarantee 8A twice with a Military Rate. ( I also am in the Past Guest and over 55 classifications, if that has any bearing. )

On the first we were upgraded 2 Categories to a Balcony higher than the Main deck. On the next we were upgraded to an Extended Balcony 8E.

Apparently, Upgrades can happen, but it may be most likely when there are more unsold Balcony cabins on a particular cruise.

I also tracked my Rate after Booking. It never went lower. Then it disappeared for a couple of weeks on a popular TA website. Then it came back @ $ 100 per person higher than what I paid. Now it is gone again !

Anyhow, I'm happy and thanks to Carnival for recognizing Veterans with great discounts.

We booked an outside guarantee at Military rate on the Conquest last November. They assigned us to a handicapped room on the Panorama deck. This room, an upgrade, had twin beds anchored to the wall. Called and asked for a new room assignment. Didn't care what deck I was on. The rates had gone down so I asked for onboard credit. Carnival agent offered a Spa deck room instead of the credit (about $25 pp). Took the upgrade and loved it. 7 day cruise cost $549 pp. Contacted the Casino manager via e-mail to ask about the gaming on the ship (not a big gambler but enjoy the slots tourney and roulette.) She sent a nice reply and then had our room decorated, including a basket of fruit. What a great surprise.

We are first time cruisers and booked on the Pride Feb 25. We booked 8A guarantee and tickets arrived with 8H cabin. Not knowing anything about upgrades or exactly what the differnce is in A B D D etc. I hope we are happy with our cabin. It is our belated honemoon cruise (seven years) so we are looking forward to the new experience. Good luck to you and Carnival's military discount can't be more appreciated.

We are first time cruisers and have booked military rate 8A guarantee cabin Feb 25 on Pride. Tickets arrived with an 8H cabin. Not sure what that upgrade is but we are looking forward to finding out. This is a belated (seven Years) honeymoon, so we were very happy with Carnivals military discount. More people should give these types of discounts.

In the fall we booked a balcony guaranteed with FI's military discount. We were upgraded to 8C.

We booked our b2b honeymoon cruises about two months ago. Called last week and the rate dropped $36 pp per cruise. I didn't even know the military rate fluctuated :)

Is there a military rate code that can be punched in on Carnival's website? Just curious if there's an easy way to check on the rate. We are using a our first PVP for our June Glory cruise and though he said he'd be on the lookout for price drops, I don't know if I can trust him yet.

  • 2 weeks later...

Does it depend on the particular sailing if you can get a military rate on a guarantee room? The PVP I booked through said you couldn't use both discounts.

Still, I am happy with the rate we booked for the balcony room we chose- as it was less than the non-discounted guarantee rate, but it would have been nicer to get a discount on the guarantee rate!

Hi,

Is there anybody who has had an upgrade with a military rate?

Thanks,

Gale

Just happened to us and my in-laws on the Miracle:) . After paying, we noticed that the price had dropped so I called Carnival. They offered us a room upgrade, a balcony from one deck to a higher deck, or an OBC:D . They offered my in-laws a room upgrade, an inside on one deck to an inside on a higher deck, or an OBC. We both choose the higher deck. When I noticed where are rooms were going to be on the higher decks, I called Carnival and asked if we could have the OBC instead of the higher deck and Carnival said OK:o . Evidently my in-laws original room was already sold, because they got the higher deck and the OBC:D . Lucky them. Carnival was fantastic in dealing with us.

Most likely your past guess discount and/or your senior discount was put into consideration. We have cruised before on a military discount (didn't get an upgrade b/c we booked a specific room), but we actually got a much better deal on the Valor for November with our past guest instead of military. So it's always good to make sure that the other discounts you may be entitled to aren't better than the mil. rate.

I am pretty sure that you can book a military rate with the guarantee... I almost did it once on accident, then my TA told me why the price was so cheap so I had to pay a bit more so I could get a specific room. If I were you, I might call Carnival back and see if you can talk to someone else (either a supervisor or another PVP) to see if their stories are the same (don't mention what the other PVP told you).
