bzymama Posted February 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2007 I have a question about packing your own soda. I drink a lot of caffeine free diet coke - it's my favorite!! But I'm pretty sure they don't have it on RCCL Enchantment so I was going to bring my own 12 pack. I've read a number of posts saying people have been fine with bringing their own soda. How do you pack it? I'm afraid the cans will explode on the airplane if I put it in my checked baggage, but I don't want to take up my whole carry-on with soda. Any advice? Thanks!!!:)
Barbee524 Posted February 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2007 Due to airline restrictions the only way you will be able to bring any soda on an airplane wil be in your checked luggage, you cannot carry it onto the plane. If you cannot stop and purchase it on your way from the airport to the port I suggest you put the cans into ziplock bags, either one or two per bag. I plan on doing this for our upcoming cruise since we are not arriving a day early and will be going directly to the ship. I actually plan on double bagging the soda. I figure the cost of the aditional ziplock bags is a lot less than the cost of sending everything out to be cleaned.

Thanks!!!:) I'm not sure about RCCL but on Princess there were quite a few people that had 12 packs strapped to their carryons by bungee cords. The sodas were in plain sight and it was never questioned. I have never sailed RCCL's Legend but we plan to bring our own Pepsi's onboard as most cruise ships only carry Coke products. Like the post above, we just stop at a local Walgreens or convenience store on the way to the terminal to pick up these last minute items. Good luck! And have fun on your cruise.

PurpleCow Posted February 26, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2007 We carry this bag in the front zipper compartment of one of our suitcases. It almost exactly holds 2 12-packs and is easy to assemble so we can pick up our Coke Zero on the way to the pier. Once on board, we use the bag as a hamper. bubbad2 Posted February 27, 2007 #9 Share Posted February 27, 2007 I was on RCCL Vision of the seas last October, and was told they carry all Coke products. And they did indeed have diet caffeine free coke. But I wouldn't blame you for saving a buck or two by taking your own.
serene56 Posted February 27, 2007 #10 Share Posted February 27, 2007 On flights you are only limited to 2 bags at 50 pounds each-- a case of soda will take up most of that weight. \ My advice-- wait til you get to the pier-- grab a cab from the airport and ask that they stop at a store quickly to grab a few 12 packs. You can carry them onboard in plain site. It states so on the web pages.
bzymama Posted February 28, 2007 Author #11 Share Posted February 28, 2007 Thanks for everyone's advice! I'll buy it on the way to the port and put in a carry on. I don't know what kind of brain lapse I was having when I posted that, but it's actually Caf Free Diet Pepsi that I like, not Coke! I also forgot about the liquid restrictions on the airlines. Duh!:)
SNMK Posted February 28, 2007 #12 Share Posted February 28, 2007 Can you just check a case of soda or water, and treat it as "luggage" when you get to the ship?
mousetravel Posted February 28, 2007 #13 Share Posted February 28, 2007 I carry drinks in a carry on bag and after emptying them all, I use the bag to pack soveniers, etc in there. Haven't had a problem.
