Casey2 Posted March 4, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2007 We will be in the Panama Canal in December. We are torn between the taking the ferry or the domed car ralilroad excursion. Can someone please tell me if there are bathrooms on the ferry and the bus to and from the ferry. I am asking because DH takes a water pill for high blood pressure and sometimes has to use the bathroom frequently.

Yes there is a bathroom on the ferry but am not sure or cannot remember if there was one on the bus. Sorry. You are going to love the ferry ride. You can really see the comparison when you are sharing a lock with a huge freighter. Have fun. Marilyn

Marilyn Did you arrange for the ferry ride as a ship's excursion, by some method before you left home, or when you arrived in Panama?
me@sea Posted April 23, 2007 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2007 I was on the boat ride on April 11th and LOVED it! As I was in the second to last row of the bus, I can tell you there is not a bathroom. I would try calling your cruise line and ask if the bus could make pit stops as I did see many commercial establishments on the way. Sorry, I do not recall the length of the bus ride. As already mentioned, there are bathrooms on the boat. Enjoy your trip! Lisa
DonLou Posted April 23, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 23, 2007 There are no bathrooms on the bus. From the bus to the ferry takes about 30 minutes or less. Yes, the ferry does have bathrooms - not the greatest but they are relatively clean and usable. The bus trip back took about 90 minutes. It included a short (about ten minutes) stop at the Charges Dam. There are no restrooms at the Dam. Be prepared.
stlrboo Posted April 26, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 26, 2007 We booked the Ferry excursion through Carnival. The bus ride was 1 1/2 to 2 hours each way.. naturally traffic conditions dictate those times..! We experienced a 'protest' which blocked the main road into Panama, so we had a 'Police' Escort on the back roads, making the ride over 3 hours.. One bus never made it to the Ferry on time! Nope, no bathrooms on the buses, and the place we stopped for a 'potty break' was not user friendly..!! (Hand sanitizer' was being passed around the bus..) YUK! Ferry had two men's and two ladies rooms.. about 4 x 6 in size, and on our Ferry, not the cleanest I've ever experienced.:o And there was ALWAYS a long line... Friends took the Train and LOVED it! Others used Mario, and loved it! We were probably the 'least happy' of everyone and we paid $175.00 pp...

We are planning to do Panama in late March 2009, so any info you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Deanna
me@sea Posted July 14, 2007 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2007 Lisa, could you tell me what the weather was like for you in early April? Deanna, The weather was very pleasant, overcast from looking at my pictures but to be honest I didn't notice. I wore shorts as did most on the boat. Windy! But I would expect that being on the water.
