fool4greys Posted March 22, 2007 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2007 We need some help deciding which tour to take. We will be in Ketchikan on May 22nd. (This is our first cruise so we are a little  on how to do things) DH wants to do the "Exclusive Flightseeing & Crab Feast" for $205.00 pp this will fly us over downtown and Tongass Nat'l Park in a De Havilland Beaver floatplane, then take us to George Inlet Lodge for lunch, then drive us back to town. I would like to take either the "Misty Fjords Seaplane Exploration" for $239.00 pp or the "Misty Fjords Wilderness Cruise & Flight" for $319.00 pp Obviously, at these prices we will not be taking more than one of these trips. So which which is actually a better deal for the money? (The above info. is from the Princesses excursions) Or would I be better off to book this on my own? Thanks in advance. cjnky Posted March 22, 2007 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2007 I'm SOOOOO glad I found this forum before booking anything!! GO FOR IT ON YOUR OWN!!!!!!!! You might try the search function at the top of the board and enter Ketchikan to get some of the posts that influenced me. (My final choice was Island Wings Misty Fjords float plane - but something else may be your first choice) Believe me the time you take to research will save you lots of $$$! :D
Budget Queen Posted March 22, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2007 As a suggestion- split up?? Misty Fjords will have way more scenic flying, since the tour is more "in the air", no time spent eating. Depends on your priority?? If you do go with Misty Fjords, independent is superior for a more personal tour, the possibility to get off the plane with your landing- verify this directly. Sometimes a longer flight at a cheaper rate.
fti Posted March 22, 2007 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2007 I did the Misty Fjords flightseeing with Southeast Aviation last summer and it was great. We landed on one of the lakes and had 15-20 minutes to look around and enjoy the incredible scenery and the serenity. Island Wings also gets high marks. SoCalGal Posted March 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2007 We have done the Misty Fjords cruise and floatplane twice and loved it. This year we have chosen the cruise only into Misty Fjords National Monument. You are well fed on the cruise portion and the floatplane is spectacular. No matter which excursion you choose, you'll love Ketchikan. Have fun!
alaskandude Posted March 25, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 25, 2007 You will love Misty too. I would really look into booking an operator inidependent from the cruise lines. You can at least see if you can save a few dollars.
