I would like to know, how if there is a problem with noise in cabins below Lido (scrapping of chairs while crew is cleaning). I did read it is a problem on the Conquest class ships, but found nothing about the Spirit class. Just curious, if I need to pack ear plugs. Looking forward to your reviews,Thanks !!

Happy Cruising, Sea YA !!

We were on deck 8 and had no problems.

i use the nickname "mom2boys' in several other locations LOL.

how old are your girls? i really should change it to 'mom2men,' since they are both 'legal' now!

Actually I use momtomegem in several other places, but that one was taken when I registered here several years ago. (I guess there are a lot of mother's out there with Megan's and Emily's.) Anyway they are 7 and 9.

You dock in Cozumel. The shows were adequate.

Yes, I didn't like the shows as much as I have liked them on other ships. I really enjoyed the first night's show and the last night's show. The other ones were rather ho hum.

My 'babies' are 21 and 18. We recently cruised to celebrate the "baby's" high school graduation and the other turning 21 in a few weeks.

We didn't see any of the shows. We're not show people. However, i truly wanted to see the comedian. My son went to the midnight show..said it was hilarious. (I was surprised he went-without his brother-gotta ask if he went with the girl he met on board or alone...!)

My biggest regrets about our last cruise: 1. didn't take nearly enough pictures.

2. didn't go dancing in the club

3. didn't go to the comedy show

4. got off the ship that last day!!!

I have to agree with you on numbers 2 and 4. We went to Medusa's the last night, but there wasn't anyone dancing. And, the age of most of the people in the room was about 18-25. I felt like an old fuddy duddy next to them.

My closest friends these days are women in their late 20s/early 30s. They invite me out dancing all of the time LOL! (I usually go, too). The weirdest/most surreal moment was when we were on a girls' weekend in Helen, Ga and we were dancing at this bar/club...some little boy insisted he was going to dance with me. I was laughing so hard...i kept telling him that i had a SON his age, and that i felt dirty LOL. turns out the child was 22! after two dances, i told him, "I have to go home and shower now, thank you for the dance." Worst part? He looks like a tall version of my son's best friend LOL!

  • 3 weeks later...

We are staying in 7188 a balcony room. Has anyone ever stayed in a room near that on either side? I'm wondering if the lifeboats obstruct our view of the ocean below us. The room is part of the recessed section of the ship. Thanks for any info about this location.

I was on the Legend in May. My room was #6197. I just looked up the deck plans and found that your room is where I thought, up one floor and opposite side of the ship from mine. It is a great location in that it is not far away from the glass elevators in the middle of the ship. (If you don't like the glass elevators there are regular elevators right nearby, even closer to your room!)

As far as the lifeboats, I took a pic from my balcony purposely showing how I overlooked the lifeboats.

It's not really an issue at all though, when I looked out I saw this...

I took those pics while still docked in Tampa. I took this one the next day while we were at sea..

The lifeboats are really not an issue, IMO. If anything, I was more comforted that if I fell, chances were I'd fall on that deck, not into the sea! Haha! Again remember, you are one deck higher than I was.... Enjoy!

Oh, that menu! I have to decide!?!?!?

My husband had the escargot, i had the onion soup les halles....they also gave us an amuse bouche...YUM....

I had the lobster, he had the dover sole (said it was really GOOD, but once he saw my lobster, wished he'd gotten that, instead...it was NOTHING like the stuff they served downstairs...)

the mushroom medley was divine....

the chocolate tarte comes on a long glass tray...with four yummy dessert selections...I THINK my husband had the cheesecake.

Enjoy whatever you get...it'll be your best meal that week!!!!

I am SO jealous!!!

:D

I thought I had seen few comments about the hot tub in the forward part of the Lido deck that said it was not part of "the Spa" and was open to all pax?

Is that true? Is there a view from it facing out over the bow?

I was looking for a retreat in case the one in the adult section aft gets full or foul weather sets in while we are on the cruise in Sept.

There is one, I believe, in the gymnasium of the spa area (forward), so that would be enclosed). Then there is one in each of the main Lido pools, midship. Supposedly there is a retractable roof over that, but we never had need to see it used. And we never really saw the Adult pool spa get very full (and we spent lots of time back there). Enjoy! She is a great ship!!:D

There is a nice hot tub in the spa area right behind the gym, separated by a glass wall. You can sit in it and look right out the front of the ship. We used it in the late afternoon and there was only one other couple in it.

Posting my review (brief) and link to pictures of our Legend Cruise we just took.

My review will be mostly pictorial - here is the link:

http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=...localeid=en_US (please let me know if this link isn't working!)

The first few pictures are from a get-together my son had on July 4 so you can skip those.

What can I say about the Legend? Well, I don't think I'm a "Carnival can do no wrong" type of person after my first cruise. It was nice, but I found the ship to be somewhat boring and overcrowded most times. The pools are way too small and far too many people are trying to cram into them. I was on deck 8 and the noise from deck 9 was absolutely unbearable at times - even my kids, who sleep like rocks - had trouble sleeping with all the noise from above.

I found the cigarette smoke in the casino to be insufferable. So much so that we avoided even walking through it. It really was awful! Our room steward (Salvador) was great and unassuming. Our waiters (Krishnan and sometimes Veljko) were excellent. Shawn the cruise director was cute. The ship was clean and mostly in good shape. Most people were very friendly. The staff was almost always friendly and accommodating.

The food was marginally good. Not tremendous, but good. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the Supper Club because our reservations were the night of the Roatan port call and we were just pooped and didn't feel like dressing for dinner. I'm sure it would have been wonderful. The spa is absolutely lovely and I spent quite a bit of time in there - the hot tub, sauna, showers, etc. My son loved the fitness center. The extended balcony rooms we had were great. I would never think of getting anything else. One night I awoke to a very panicky, claustrophobic feeling (not sure why) and I was able to walk out onto my balcony and felt much, much better. Seeing the moonlight on the water in the middle of the night was really nice. There were only a few times when someone was smoking next to or near my balcony and it bothered me. Mostly it was ok.

Check in was easy. Had we gotten there just a little earlier it would have been painless. We got there about 11:30 and that was when the line really started to form. But no big deal. Check out was easy too. The Tampa port is great. During sailaway we were out on the balcony and saw dolphins swimming next to the ship. That was neat.

GC was nice but the water was really rough. We did waverunners and although it was fun, we were beaten half to death from the rough water! The stingray swim was absolutely amazing. Snorkeling at GC was awful. Way too rough, and my 19 year old son swallowed so much salt water he was sick the rest of the day!

Cozumel - we did Chankanaab park and the dolphin swim. Highly recommend Chankanaab, even if you're not doing the dolphin swim. Snorkeling much better there, nice places to relax, lots to see and do. Food/drinks readily available, taxis always at the ready to bring you there and take you back to the pier.

Belize - we opted to stay on board. Our crew was wiped out and we needed some down time. I wish I could have seen it though.

Roatan - absolutely positively fabulous. Met Victor Bodden right outside the gate, he introduced us to Cardy, our wonderful driver, and we were off. I cannot say enough good things about Victor or his driver, Cardy. They are consummate professionals and we were blown away. Loved, loved, LOVED Roatan. We were the first people off the ship at 8 (6 am island time) and there they were, waiting for us. Cardy took us on a tour of the island and told us all about its history. He took us ziplining at Pirates of the Caribbean ziplining - we chose "extreme ziplining" and are glad we did. Fun!! We went to Victor's home and played with his monkeys and other animals - that was a huge hit with my crew. Then he took us snorkeling at Half Moon Bay - very good snorkeling. Even my 10 year old loved the snorkeling here. He actually saw a stone fish and got very freaked out (he knows they're deadly) but after I "talked him down" he came back out. We saw tons of fish and a sea snake (cool!). Wish we could have stayed a couple of days at least! Cardy was an absolute gentleman. Very noble, calm, great driver, very patient. He told us about his family but only when we asked. Found out he has mostly grown children and one 7 year old daughter. He went to EMT school in the states (Milwaukee) some years ago. He speaks absolutely perfect English with only a hint of an accent. He is a wonderful man. I wish we had tipped him double what we did (35.00). We would have if we'd had more cash with us.

If anyone has any specific questions about the ship or the ports, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer!

Interesting! Just goes to show you how different the cruise experience can be on different sailings. We were also on deck 8, a little aft of midship and barely heard any noise, except on a couple of occasions on our balcony. (We also loved the extended balcony!). The ship never felt crowded to us, nor were the pools or spas really crowded. But as far as I know, the ship was near capacity. We didn't have alot of children on our sailing since it was November...I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Kids, because they are always flying around, may have made it feel more crowded! LOL!

We had rough water in Cayman, too...made doing the stingrays a little tough. But they wouldn't even let us snorkel (not that I would have wanted to in those waves). We also loved Chankanaab and Roatan (and Victor's tours).

Well, just like with anything else, nothing is necessarily perfect, I guess. But I would have to think really hard to find fault with anything on our Legend sailing. I look forward to looking at your pics and bringing back some memories to tide me over til we sail her next fall! Thanks for the review!:)

Small world indeed! We moved from the Dunbar Hill area down to Hamden/New Haven line (off Circular) when I got divorced. 2 years ago, we moved up near the center of town. Free Friday nite concerts in the summer that we can hear perfectly from our deck....tonite is the Fifth Dimension! They were just practicing and sound really good!:D

Hopefully we don't move again til we relocate down south in 10 years or so (and away from these winters! ) Not sure where yet...probably the Carolinas. Sure would be nice to be closer to the cruise ports! Bet you're lovin that!;)

I was born and raised in and around NYC...when I got married, I moved to CT, where my husband was working. His family immigrated from Jamaica to Branford, of all places. My mother in law and my husband's aunt and cousins still live there and in Stanford....After leaving State St. (it got rough), we moved to woodward ave---right near the beach. in 96 we moved to GA-we wanted a house and i wanted to teach again, and no one was hiring there--and housing was insane....and poof! here we are.

i MISS the snow...truly. can't get used to christmas in short sleeves!!! i rarely get back to CT; and my family moved from brooklyn (the italian side of town, natch!) and long island....now we're scattered.

I had friends who used to live on circular ave-then they moved to chester.

the ports being so close just makes it that much more affordable for us to take cruises. we just drove back from orlando last night-6.5 hrs. my youngest son and two teammates took first in GA in a culinary contest-they went on to compete at nationals, and it was in orlando this week. naturally T RAINED HEAVILY the entire time we were there....so no swimming! no parks! hotel was so massive, it was a trip!

i miss living near the water-i don't like being 4 hrs from the nearest beach...

you at least have the sound!

have you ever taken the thimble islands 'cruise?" it not, definitely do it. reasonable, and interesting..the captains take you from island to island and give you the history of each. jane pauley and her spouse (garry trudeau) have a house on one of them, and can be seen from time to time. go down to the stoney creek area and you'll find the boats. fun thing to do for a day.....great way to stave away cruise depression! the last time we went home for a visit-about 3 yrs ago-we did the thimble island thing-again...probably our 10th time....!

Looks like we've crisscrossed all over. I grew up in Stamford, Dad was born & raised in Brooklyn, have relatives in Long Island....too funny!

I will miss the snow a little, won't miss the cold. I will be within a couple of hours of ocean no matter where we go...that's a must!

Congrats to your son!!! Sorry for the weather:( If my daughter gets to Nationals for synchronized swimming next summer, it will be in Gainesville.

You remember a place called County TV on Summer St.? Until we moved here, my husband worked there...not too far from the mall. I lived/worked on LI too-valley stream, rockeville ctr, elmont...my mom worked for the telephone co. in hempstead, and lived in w. hempstead. i lived in brooklyn-bensonhurst-as a kid-then taught in queens for a bit.

i also subbed (long term) for east rock elementary in new haven...my sons went there until we moved to woodward ave.

i miss the snow, and the cold. i type this as i look out my kitchen windows...and watch the heat waves radiate from my drought-killed backyard! today's my oldest's 21st bday, and his friends are coming to sleep in a giant inflatable (don't ask) that will be set up here for the weekend. me? I'll be watching the crazies from my air-conditioned loveliness...and laughing at them. even the DOGS don't want to go out today-HOTTTTTTTTTTT.

i've found that the internet is an amazing tool for shrinking the world...
