amd1234 Posted May 6, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2007 We just received our documents and notice we have a five hr. layover in Amsterdam before we fly to Prague. How far is the airport to the city. Could we hire a guide and do a quick tour of Amsterdam? Please I need advice and the thought of remaining at the airport for five hrs. is horrible...
GBPack Posted May 7, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2007 There's a train station right inside the airport terminal. It's easy to catch the train into town (20-30 minutes?). When you walk out of the central station, there are tour boats that can give you a quick canal tour. You might be able to find schedules online. There are also plenty of sites you can see in a walking tour near central station. That said, 5 hours isn't a lot of time once you allow for customs, immigration, travel to and from city center, and getting back through security. letsgo39 Posted May 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 8, 2007 Considering you would have to go through customs and immigration when you came back to the airport I really don't think there is time to go into Amsterdam.I've flown through Amsterdam a few times and the lines have always been very long.Considering they want you to get to the Airport 3 hours ahead of time you would only have 2 hours to get into town. Gives you a good excuse to return to Amsterdam someday. It is a very beautiful city. I have heard there are some wonderful paintings on loan to the airport as in Van Goghs and some other classics. Check out the Schiphol Airport web site for some information on interesting things to see right there.
