mitsguy2001 Posted June 3, 2007 #26 Share Posted June 3, 2007 I have no idea about the other NCL ships, but the NCLA Pride of ships don't have the same shopping opportunities as the internationally flagged ships. There is no duty-free alcohol shop (you're never out of the US; duty free does not apply) and no $10 type shop (at least, not on PoH). There's no reason for them to have masses of shops with the inexpensive, tax free, and duty free items because passengers must pay tax and duty. There were some inexpensive souveniers on PoH in the one big store (plus there's a pricy boutique), but that's it. beachchick I just wish that they had a store to sell basic necessities. Luckily we didn't run out of sunscreen, since there was nowhere to buy that on the ship either, as far as I know. Even if the prices were jacked up compared to what you'd pay on land, it would still be worth it for someone who really needs to buy something but doesn't want to waste time finding a store on land. DALSAL Posted June 3, 2007 #27 Share Posted June 3, 2007 So,I guess its a very good idea to make a list and then be double sure you dont forget to bring what you need. Im glad to know about the ABC stores too...sounds like they are on every corner in Honolulu,so if I do forget something, hopefully I will remember it while Im there! I too dont want to spend my precious few hours I have in Hawaii shopping! Dot
beachchick Posted June 4, 2007 #28 Share Posted June 4, 2007 DALSAL: ABC stores are everywhere in Hawaii. If you have a rental car, it's easy to stop at a Longs, Safeway, Foodland, or similar because they are in every port town too. beachchick
robinpow Posted June 4, 2007 #29 Share Posted June 4, 2007 Just stepped off the PoA today. First if you plan to do the sunrise excursion, take a coat with pockets and hood! It's darn right cold up there!!!! Good news... I think there was a Wal-mart and K-mart at almost every port! Free shuttles too. So if you do forget to pack something... just hop over to the local Wal-mart. LOL

Brownies52 Posted June 4, 2007 #31 Share Posted June 4, 2007 I take most of what you mentioned. Add duct tape, scissors, string or cord. twisties, various sizes of ziploc bags. travel alarm. umbrella, poncho. if I'll be swimming: spray in/leave on conditioner. extension cord for DH's CPAP machine. bottle opener and cork screw. sticky notes. clothes pins for the same reason you take clips.
