Jolimont Posted April 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2004 I wonder if you've heard of anyone offering boat tours of the Wrangell Narrow, probably out of Ketchikan? It's kind of out of the way, but we have a request from an old mine-sweeper captain who'd really like to see that again. Any suggestions? Andee Posted April 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2004 We travelled the Wrangell Narrows on an Alaska Marine Hughway ferry boat from Ketchikan to Skagway.
Jolimont Posted April 12, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted April 12, 2004 How long was that trip between Ketchikan and Skagway? klingoncruiser Posted April 13, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2004 It is quite a ways from Ketchikan to Petersburg. The alaska ferry goes to Wrangel (about 4 hours if I remember right) and then on to Petersburg. The Wrangel narrows lie between Wrangel and Petersburg. I know of no tours from a cruise ship which would take you there. However if you are going to do it on your own, you will go through the narrows on the ferry. If you have a ship that docks in Wrangle, perhaps you can find a private tour that will take you to the narrows. But it will take at least 3 hours to go up and back I would think, even in a good fast boat. I wrestled with reality for years, Doctor, and I'm happy to state, I finally won out over it. (Harvey 1950) Next cruise- Serenade of the Sea to Alaska- July 25. Roll call started!
Yukon Posted April 13, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2004 I haven't heard of anyone doing regular tours, but there are certainly charter operators who will take you there. It would be a full day on the water, but the Narrows are very impressive. The City has a list of operators at http://www.wrangell.com/visitors/directory/category.cfm?Directory=5 Murray
