AOS Review Aug 1 -8

Recommended Posts

I sailed with a group of 35, celebrating my 50th. I had a private party on the first night and the service was outstanding.

We stayed at the Intercontential Hotel in Puerto Rico (Isla Verde). Nice hotel that I will go back to next time. I wish I would have booked two days instead of one precruise stay. Nice pool and beach. They charge a $9 resort fee but that wasn't a problem at all.

We arrived at the port around 10:45 and boarding around 1:00 but couldn't go to our cabin until 2:30. Received our luggage around 5:30 so we ent to dinner with what we had on. By the way, there were very few people who didn't have shorts on at the first dinner because of luggage problems.

We didn't book any excursion this year, decided to do our own thing and save some money, which we did. We found out you have to go outside the gates to get a good price for a tour of the Islands and take you to the beach.

Didn't here anyone in the group complain about the food. Who cruise anyway for the food these days? The only problem in the dining room is people not being on time. If everyone doesn't arrived at the same time they will slow up the service so everyone can catch up. So make sure you tell your party to be on time or don't come.

I love the cookies and the sandwiches on the Promenade. Had lunch there every day.

I ate breakfast in the Windjammer five mornings and ordered room service one morning. Breakfast was verry good. It take a lot to mess up eggs (-:

The only time I ate lunch in the Windjammer for lunch was the first and the food was good. Ate at Johnny Rocket's one night an there was no line at all but I think 12 midnight had something to do with this.

I want to add the RCCL doesn't enforce the dress code in the dining room. Anything goes. On smart casual and casual nights some people think they mean shorts and jeans.

We attended the welcome back party but the Captain wasn't available for questions. We attended the recital/cocktail party which was very good which the Captain and his staff did attend. First class all the way.

Embarkment was a mess. They didn't use the colors. They told anyone that had to catch a plane from 10:30 until 2:30 that they can depart so you know everyone tried to get off of the ship. What a mess but custom was a breeze. I wouldn't get a flight out of San Juan before 12:00. I left the terminal at 10:30 and arrived at my gate at 12:30 for a 1:10 flight. Coming home to that airport had to be the worst experience I have ever had at an airport.

Overall we had a great time. We were on vacation on a ship so what more can you ask for. People stop complaining about the food and enjoy yourself.

If anyone need a copy of the compass give me your email address and I will PDF it to you. I don't know how to do it on the board. My compass is for the St. Lucia and Barbados route.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and I wil try and answer them.

tracy1, check you email and you will have the compass. We ate at Outback Steakhouse which is at the Embassy Suite Hotel. It's walking distance from the hotel. Right across the street there is a Pondersa (sp) Steak House (which also serves breakfast) and a Wendy's if you want to save money. We had breakfast in the same shopping center. We paid $10 for 2 orders of french toast, bacon and 2 cups of coffee (not bad). If you want to buy water there is a small grocery store in the shopping center. By the way at the hotel you can't wear a hat in the casino and after 7:00 you can't wear shorts.
