Question about OBC

When you receive on board credit, can you use that credit for anything on the ship? I seem to recall reading on here that OBC can only be used for purchases, not for things such as tips, etc. If someone gets a large OBC for a price reduction, is not a drinker, does not do a lot of shopping, does the OBC just disappear at the end of the cruise? Just curious because people seem to be very excited about OBC. On our last cruise, the only charges that we had on our card were for the tips, one specialty restaurant, and one excursion. If it couldn't be used for these things, it seems like it would be an awful waste!

Basically it's tied to your balance of your account. However, if your OBC causes you to have a credit at the end of the cruise, you will lose that more than likely. Use the OBC for things you might not ordinarily do.... take a spa treatment, or splurge on a few more specialty restaurants, or take an extra excursion, or maybe enjoy a few bottles of wine during the week with dinner.

Maybe I'm wrong...

I thought from reading previous posts on this board that typically an OBC from NCL cannot be used for tips or gambling in the casino. It can be used for specialty restaurants, bar drinks, soda cards, photos, spa, and shore excursions, etc.

However, if a friend or relative gives you an OBC as a bon voyage gift, that can be used for anything, including the casino and tips.

Based on what my TA told me re: my upcoming trip, that is correct.

Our experience is that it can't be used for tips or casino charges, but should apply to everything else. Excursions can use them up real fast -- as can spa purchases or meals in the specialty restaurants.

We had the same experience on the Spirit just a few months ago and this is exactly what we were told. We ended up w/ a credit the last night and just spent it in the gift shop buying an extra bottle of rum ... and since they let us take it back to the cabin with us ... it was half consumed by the time we got off the ship :p

You can not use it for the $10 daily service charge, or in the casino.

You can use it for dining in a Specialty Restauarant, in the Gift Shop, for a shore excursion, for a spa treamment, soda & drinks & for photos.
