Name game Posted September 5, 2007 #51 Share Posted September 5, 2007 To be honest, it's hard to realize there is a strike. Only 7,000 out of the however many taxis there are, are on strike. There are still tons of cabs on the streets on Manhattan. If the news didn't mention there was actually a strike going on, no one would have known or noticed. goldengirl Posted September 5, 2007 #52 Share Posted September 5, 2007 my luck the week we leave on the cruise. Does anyone know if the strike is on sat the best way for me to get from port authority to manhattan pier thanks for your help On the subject of the strike. why don't they send all these illegal cab drivers back to where they came from. how did they get a drivers license being illegal
smeyer418 Posted September 5, 2007 #53 Share Posted September 5, 2007 1. The cab drivers are NOT illegals. they all are here legally. They are subject to background checks and are hard working. Just because someone was not born here doesn't make them illegal. If they sent back everyone who came here illegally, even some of us US citizens, the country would be empty. 2. The strike is only a two day work stopage today and tomorrow. 3. Its largely ineffective. Its not that far from Port Authority to the pier. Port Authority is at 41 street between 8th and 9th avenue. The cruise terminal is between 48-52nd street and 12th avenue....its about a mile. You can take a bus up eighth avenue to 51 street and change to the crosstown bus accoss to 12th avenue...
