Bruin Steve Posted August 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2004 Don't worry about private guides... Take the half day ship's tour to the Achilleion Palace...it's not a bad tour, it's fairly inexpensive and it will get you to the otherwise hard to get to (unless you want to rent a car for the day) palace... The tour will let you off in town where you can spend the rest of the day exploring on your own...it is an easy town to walk around on your own...and picturesque to boot... For a great lunch experience, find your way to "Pizza Pete's"...(Yes, believe it or not, that's the name...there's also a Greek name and it's made to look like two different restaurants--but it's not really)...It's along the cliffs just south of the harbor...The tables are on a patio out on the cliff overlooking the sea...make sure to get a table at the rail...the kitchen is across the highway...The fish put on a great show down below when the waiters throw the leftover bread their way...We ate there in 1981 and again last August--and had the same waiter both times!!! Have fun...
