SeanCU79 Posted September 30, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2007 I was curious if anyone has done one of the charters in Newport on an old Americas Cup sailboat. It sounds like alot of fun but from what I could see online they only had charters for groups. My Dad seems to think that you can just go down to the docks and get on one. Has anyone done this? If so do you have recommendations. Any info would be appreciated.
elaineb Posted October 8, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Yes, you usually can just walk onto Bowen's Wharf and get a same day sail. However, due to the number of people in town, you should make reservations ahead of time. Here is a list of sailboats the their websites: http://www.gonewport.com/nav.aspx?id=164 We have been on the Madeleine and also gone with Sightsailing. Both were a great sail. Hope this helps and have a great day in Newport!
elaineb Posted October 8, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2007 Sean - I reread your post and you specifically asked for America's Cup charters, not just sailing! Sorry. I did a google and here is a link to the website - looks as if they do daily sailings. No prices on the website - you'd have to contact them. http://www.americascupcharters.com/daysail.htm And here is another: http://www.classic12metercharters.com/
PoopDeckPappy Posted October 19, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2007 Just to throw in my .02. I've done this in the Caribbean and it was great, well worth the money (which was 85 or 90 6 years ago). Also, when I was on the Caribbean sailing it was a ship excersion. They ship booked the boats & I was told that they were only available via the cruise excersion. I don't know if i. it was true or ii. if it was that this is what is done in Newport. Since I knew I wanted to do it, I just booked via the cruiseline so I didn't miss out on it. In Newport I too did the sighsailing like elaineb and agree that it was great. My wife & I loved Newport.
