Where are all the P&O cruisers?

There is of course a messageboard of sorts on P&O's own website. But it's garbage. Firstly it's painfully slow. And it's also full of sad sacks who attack or ignore anybody not apparently posting under their own real names !! Plus a number of them will not tolerate any criticism of P&O, however constructive. Coing that that makes you negative or a 'moaner' or a 'whinger' in their eyes. I even had one loony old bat tell me that I was spoiling her expectation of her next cruise by criticising P&O's (withdrawn) charge of £2 for cabin served breakfast on the new ship Arcadia, whereas it was free on all the other ships.

So all in all the P&O messageboard is not worth bothering with and this is the only viable one that I know of.

P&O is a very British product and there would be no point in marketing it hard elsewhere. Carnival no doubt intends to keep it that way. They are basing a Princess ship in Southampton shortly for the benefit of American customers.

Actually, I think there is a market for P&O in the USA - it just has not been marketed well.

Surprisingly just this morning, I received an e-mail from Princess for a P&O cruise, Los Angeles to Southampton via the Panama Canal, on Artemis (the former Royal Princess).

Several of us Yanks have been assured by Princess that they will be marketing P&O more agressively in the future, at some unspecified date.

Well of course do try P&O by all means if you are minded to. I have sailed with P&O and Princess, and enjoyed both. They are similar but whereas the one has a British flavour, the other of course has an American one.

On P&O, the food, beer, entertainment, activities are all aimed very much at the UK taste (some say the northen English taste, but I would not agree with that, and I am a southerner).

For Americans, P&O's appeal will depend very much on how they would take to the British culture, or how much they want to try something different. Would they for example want to drink draught bitter (there are alternatives of course), play bingo (naturally you don't have to), or always wear a tuxedo on formal nights (almost everyone does on P&O) ? Would they be happy with only English soccer and cricket being beamed into the sports bar ?

Having said that, we enjoyed Princess (in the Caribbean) partly because of the American flavour. It was almost like being on holiday in the USA. But there were several hundred Brits on the ship also, whereas at the moment on P&O the number of Americans appears to be negligible.

I would suggest trying the ships Oceana or Arcadia first. Oriana and Aurora, and we understand the soon to arrive Artemis, are more traditional British.

Just thought that i would add my name to this forum as a 'mainly P&O Cruiser'. Discovered this site as went twith MSC in March. Excellent as no - yes that was NO single suppliments on their Carribean Cruises. Anyway whilst searching for a review of the ship I came across this site and have enjoyed the general 'feel' of this site and how easy it is to use compared to Cruise Connections Site.

So 'hi' all fellow P&O cruisers using Cruise Critic Site - I'm just back from 19 nights on Oriana (Weekender and Venice) best cruise ever - fantastic Feastival of Music at Sea Theme.

Arcadia week end break next in July. (5 weeks tomorrow!) :)

Hello everyone.

I've booked my first with P&O although I have a good few months to go yet (Like next year) I'm booked on the Arcadia in October 2006. In the meanwhile I have a cruise on The Radiance of the Seas to enjoy. I'm fairly new to cruising having completed two with NCL. As you can see I am working my way up the cruise lines and hopefully better standards.

I look forward to chatting to you all in the near future.
