Crane beach sounds wonderful. ===> It'll do.:D

Would one of you "natives" say it's the best beach on the island

as far as swimming, snorkling just relaxing in the water? ===> No. bit too rough for some of those activities.

How is the snorkelling in Barbados?? ===> On the West Coast, at Folkestone, particularly, quite good

How far is it from the cruise terminal? ===> Crane? right across the island!

I've never seen such beautiful water and after seeing Half Moon CAY, I never thought I'd say that. LOL

For swimming and snorkelling, you want the West Coast

but check out some pics as well..

How far are the west coast beaches from the cruise terminal?

I just can't beleive how beautiful that water is. It's absolutely amazing...

The Bridgetown Port is at the Southern extreme of our West Coast,

so how far up you go...starts right there at Brighton Beach, immediately N. of the harbour

..and goes up about...ooh..15 miles?

The whole island is 21 miles long --North-to-South--

and 14 smiles wide, at its widest point..so...:)

What were you saying about the colour of the water...?

assuming you saw these already..

Thank you so much for all your help. We aren't going till next year, but I'm a planner. LOL I want to know exactly what I'm going to do when I get there and from your wonderful pics, I know I've got to go to the beach.

I think hubby is going to try and deep sea fish.

Do you have any suggestions for that?

BTW-can I have your email? I will probably have a lot of questions later on and would love to talk to a local there.

If you don't mind, please email me at: susuw@cox.net so I can pick your brain a few hundred times before next April. LOL

Thanks so much for all your great info.

Let me get this straight the US price is $12.50 for chair, towel. Then do u get your $12.5 back to spend at the bar or for food. I don't understand how this works. Also 4 going by cab how much? I imagine the taxi ride is a good way to see more of the island. How safe is the area and the island. Thanks

I don't understand how this works. ===> It's really to keep the yobs OUT!

Also 4 going by cab how much? ===> Not sure, but it is clear across the island!

I imagine the taxi ride is a good way to see more of the island. ===> That part of it, yes.

How safe is the area and the island. ===> Safer than where you live!!:D

When I called Crane back in October? that's the definite impression I got

..that the day pass $$ got you a chair and a towel(costs them zilch to do that)

but was refundable at bar/restaurant(where you'll end up spending more than just $25)

Crane likes to keep it exclusive(not ridiculously so)

but enough to keep the trash out..if you'll excuse my frank approach.

Go enjoy the place.

Stop worrying.

It's only money!

Yours or theirs!!:D

Do you have any suggestions for that?

There's a bunch of DeepSea sport-fishermen tied up alongside

at WATERFRONT CAFE right on The Careenage, in Bridgetown

..in the inlet there.

Don't know if they'll take you as a walk-in

but I'm sure someone will accommodate you at a moment's notice!

We need da money!

You should find brochures or info on DepSea Fishing

right there in the terminal, if you look around.

Or Yellow Pages.

Look under FISHING-Deep Sea

- I just saw quite a few of them listed there!

is there a bar food kinda thing at Accra? ===> very much so: you won't starve!!

- you recommend the Tiami Catamaran Cruise?

It looks Great and relatively cheap on the website ===> Can get a bit crowded at times

your website is awesome great pics ===> Thanks: glad you like them.

I'm pretty sure no one will object to a tourist strolling in off the beach,

into Accra Beach Hotel's beach/pool bar - and if they do

there are a few 'small-man' kiosks just off the beach that sell snacks, beer,etc..

..one of them a mini-bar thing. Accra isn't popular fer nuthin!

Chefette fast food is right across the street: they too sell beer, fried chicken and chips,

roti, pizza, salad-bar and soup(in their Barbecue barn section).

Several food and beverage-oriented businesses surround the Accra beach area.

Tiami is popular.

Good price, yes, but in the view of some they can stuff a few too many on board,

but then that also depends on the day. If it's not a particularly busy day

you may be lucky to enjoy moderate loading and more room to yourself

than would be the case on a tight day.

I personally prefer the larger and more comfortable Harbour Master

(run by the same ppl!) because I can get high up off the water to take pics

walk around on three decks(four if you include the air-conned Restrooms deck below!)

and sit at a table to have lunch, but maybe I'm gittin old..

Are there any GOOD all inclusive resorts on Barbados that you would recommend. I know there are pros and cons to all inclusive but we recently did one in the Dominican and had great luck with beautiful accomodations. Just spent a day on Barbados on a cruise and really liked the island. Would like to spend more time and are thinking of an all inclusive. Maybe this isn't the place to ask but you seem so knowledgeable. Thanks

- you seem so knowledgeable. ===> Maybe ...maybe not..

Please bear in mind that I'm an island resident and not a "tourist" as such,

even though I may be an occasional cruiser when I get the chance.

As a non-tourist resident

I'm not exactly a consumer of all-inclusive type accommodation, I hope you understand.

In other words.. this ain't quite my Department? :)

CRANE Beach is fabulous (view, ambiance)

but whether it's an all-inclusive or not, I really don't know.

Would suggest you start Google-ing the internet

by submitting the phrase 'Barbados all-inclusive' and see what comes back.

We/Barbados have been in the Tourism-hotel business now for at least a half century

and our repeat business is fairly good, so we must be doing something right.

You can hardly go wrong with places like Crane, Turtle Beach and places like that

(if they're considered all-inclusives...I'm not so sure about the definition of that term?)

............................

Wife says DIVI - that's Divi Southwinds

in the 'happening' St.Lawrence Gap area, but not at the noisy nightclub end.

Casuarina is now Almond Casuarina...both that and Turtle Beach located in Dover Woods

at the faaar end of St.Lawrence Gap, and very nice in the trees and great gardens

but again..whether they're "all-inclusive" or not is beyond me.

_______________________________________

I'm lookin in the Barbados Yellow Pages here

and I see no separate listings for all-inclusives, just lotsa plain ole HOTELS.

Lookin under Resorts...I see one only listing...for Almond Beach Village

phone (246)-422-4900 - that's up towards the Northern part of the island, but also on the calm West Coast.

Could I trouble you or someone else for the web site for the boat cruise tours? This sounds like fun.

Thanks

Three years ago we stayed at the Turtle Beach Resort....it's at the south end of the island and at the confluence of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. We had a couple of red flag days (no swimming) due to rough seas but the other days were fun in the surf. As a result it's not a great place for snorkeling but, it's a reallly beautiful spot and all of the amenities of the resort are beautiful.

One of their sister properties is the Colony Club Beach Resort and it's on the Western (Caribbean Sea) side of the island. We had full priveledges there and spent a full day on their beach which is much calmer!

The highlight of the beach for us was just to the south of their property......The Folkstone Marine Park. It's a protected area stretching out several hundred feet in the water and surrounded by buoys that keep the boat traffic away. Underwater is a mass of coral and provides for some pretty incredible snorkeling.

Our Norwegian Jewel cruise stops in Barbados this April 16th. I called the Colony Club to see if we could buy a day pass there (normally $90) but they are completely sold out.

Our plan now is to take the bus from the ship and spend the day up there; hopefully there will be chairs to rent and a place ot two for snacks, lunch and, of course, a few of their local brew: Banks !!

I will agree though, if it wasn't for need to snorkel, we would hit Crane Beach in a heartbeat!

Do NOT go to Crane beach if what you want from a beach is to swim, snorkel and relax.

More often than not it is very rough, windy and has a very strong undertow, so is not recommended for swimming.

It would have to be a very calm day with no wind before I'd go back there, it's nice to look at, and that's about it.

If you want a good beach to relax, swim, snorkel and maybe a bite to eat and a drink, got to one of the many beaches on the West Coast, you won't get blown away by the wind, and you'll be able to swim in the sea.

Wow thanks for the info. The Colony Club sounds like what we are looking for. Can you go to the Colony Club without the day pass? or is it recommened to purchase this? What all does the 90.00 include? Do they have a web site? How much would a taxi cost? [you mentioned taking a bus? how does this work?} sorry I have never been to Barbados and have only just started reading the treads here on it, just booked my RCCI cruise for end of Sept late last week, so I am just beginning my planning stage.

So I hope no one minds I will definetly have lots of questions in the months to come.

Thanks all :D

I just rang Colony Club (246)-422-2335 - to ask about their Day Pass.

It's steep.

U.S.$100 per person - this gets you a chair, an umbrella and a small side-table,from what I can gather

but no goodies from their Bar or Restaurant

although I imagine you might then order from them, but pay extra.

So clearly, this isn't for everyone

but if you want a day at a nice quiet classy-'Colonial' West Coast hotel

on a nice beach with good snorkelling.. this may be for you!

I posted earlier about the Colony Club/Folkstone Marine Park prior to our April 11 Norwegian Jewel Cruise and would like to post again to mention how it went.

The Princess Alice bus terminal is about a fifteen minute walk from the pier.

Take the 1C bus....it takes about twenty minutes to get to Folkstone. Once off the bus, walk through the Park grounds to the beach and then walk north about 1/4 mile past a resort and then you'll see the beach for the Colony Club.

Ask for the pool attendant and he'll set you up with chairs and an umbrella for fifteen bucks. You can also get a nice lunch for about fifteen bucks and it's big enough for two adults to split.

The Marine Park is surrounded with buoys and the snorkeling is great. Much of the coral has been damaged however, from a storm they had back in March.

Hope this helps!

When you get into the Cruise Terminal building at the Bridgetown Port, BARBADOS

find a phone somewhere and dial 426-0200 - that's Hilton's PBX.

Ask the lady who answers your call...about whether they can take you that day

- it's subject to availability

If the hotel is too full, they may refuse you

but with luck, she'll tell you to come on over! :)

I was just there yesterday afternoon..

but here are a few shots of Hilton Barbados

that I took a few weeks ago.

We absolutely love the Hilton! Definitely our first choice to go to in Barbados but it is subject to avalability for day passes but if you are lucky enough to get in, it is gorgeous! :D There was 6 of us last time in Dec. and it was 8.00 a person for taxi for each way. :)

Yes, Hilton's gorgeous.

And it should be...God knows they spent a few years and a few Dollars

re-doing the whole thing (from the ground up literally) some years back

and now the gardens are maturing, it's lookin good!

I reckon there's only about a 5% chance they'll ever be too full to take you.

It would have to be that peak time for tourism, from Dec.15th. to mid-January

where they might be too full to take cruisers for the day.

Other than that I think you'd be very welcome!

Nice thing about Hilton is that it's not far from your ship

(within sight, at the Hotel's entrance!) and yet 'the beach side' of the Hotel is on the other side of the point

with not much else in sight, so you get the marvelous feeling you're out in the middle of nowhere

when in fact you're on the outskirts of the city area! Clever!

I love the way that Hilton picture looks..What is included with the $25 day pass there?

Do they have music in that pool/beach area?

Hilton Hotel. US$ 25 each, depending on how full they are.

They suggest you phone ahead (426-0200)

to see if they can handle you -or not- on that day.

Your $25 gets you a chair, a towel, a shower,

but is not refundable at bar and restaurant.

Just a bit beyond Bridgetown, and your ship.

No music(that I ever heard) - try peace and quiet?
