inblue Posted December 1, 2008 #51 Share Posted December 1, 2008 I posted earlier about the Colony Club/Folkstone Marine Park prior to our April 11 Norwegian Jewel Cruise and would like to post again to mention how it went. The Princess Alice bus terminal is about a fifteen minute walk from the pier. Take the 1C bus....it takes about twenty minutes to get to Folkstone. Once off the bus, walk through the Park grounds to the beach and then walk north about 1/4 mile past a resort and then you'll see the beach for the Colony Club. Ask for the pool attendant and he'll set you up with chairs and an umbrella for fifteen bucks. You can also get a nice lunch for about fifteen bucks and it's big enough for two adults to split. The Marine Park is surrounded with buoys and the snorkeling is great. Much of the coral has been damaged however, from a storm they had back in March. Hope this helps! Would you leave your camera in a backpack on the chair while diving? I don't know if it's smart to leave my gear when in water. Also, from what you have written , it seems that you did not have to call ahead and make a reservation. Is this a different place than the Colony Hotel that charges $100? And last, did you get two chairs for $15? :) we will be there mid December! I'm wondering if we should just spend the day on the beach or take the Thriller Ocean Tour for $60pp. Kind of expensive for only 3.5 hrs. Any thoughts? Aplmac Posted December 1, 2008 #52 Share Posted December 1, 2008 Would you leave your camera in a backpack on the chair while diving? ===> No.I don't know if it's smart to leave my gear when in water. ===> If you're taking a swim nearby and can keep an eye on things, yes by all means, but not if you're going to have your head underwater diving! Also, from what you have written it seems that you did not have to call ahead and make a reservation. ===> HILTON wants you to call ahead Is this a different place than The Colony Club Hotel that charges $100? ===About ten miles different, yes. Don't tempt fate by doing silly stuff. If you're aways out from shore, totally distracted by either diving or snorkelling your bag is an easy picking for some local weirdo who might be keeping an eye out for such an opportune target. swimmer_steph Posted April 20, 2009 #53 Share Posted April 20, 2009 My husband and I are going to try and book the Hilton. Has anyone been there recently and if so, I'd appreciate thoughts, etc. What's the best way to reach the Hilton from the terminal? If it's by taxi, can you please tell me about how much I should expect to pay? Thanks so much!
Aplmac Posted April 20, 2009 #54 Share Posted April 20, 2009 My husband and I are going to try and book the Hilton. ===> Remember to phone ahead first, okay? What's the best way to reach the Hilton from the terminal? If it's by taxi, can you please tell me about how much I should expect to pay? Although I live on the island, I'm no expert on local taxi fares (use my own car) - but I should think somewhere in the region of about U.S.$15-20 realistically, even though I'm sure he'll try for $25 at first. That's one way, eh? Lotsa taxis at Hilton for your return journey back to the ship but do allow at least half-hour/45 mins. for getting back to the Port because of local traffic and buildup at the Port's entrance due to all your shipmates doing the same thing as you're doing - not to mention the other (2? ..3?) ships in Port that day,as well! :) It gets busy, crowded, jammed on cruise ship days, around 3:30-4:30 p.m., I'm told . Can'tstopcruising Posted April 22, 2009 #56 Share Posted April 22, 2009 We would like to visit the spectacular Crane's Beach. We are only 2. Will it still be $25-30 US each way? Thanks.
Rare hcat Posted July 8, 2010 #57 Share Posted July 8, 2010 When you get into the Cruise Terminal building at the Bridgetown Port, BARBADOSfind a phone somewhere and dial 426-0200 - that's Hilton's PBX. Ask the lady who answers your call...about whether they can take you that day - it's subject to availability If the hotel is too full, they may refuse you but with luck, she'll tell you to come on over! :) ___________________________________ I was just there yesterday afternoon.. but here are a few shots of Hilton Barbados that I took a few weeks ago. sounds & looks great but with 5 ships in port on our cruise day I would prefer something that is not so "iffy" even in a bad economy they may be full on our day in the winter--wonder what a room will cost for 1 day? LHARTWICK Posted August 20, 2010 #58 Share Posted August 20, 2010 I e-mailed the Crane Beach Hotel re: the Day Passes - this is the response: "We do have a day pass which can be purchased for $45usd per person. That entitles you to use our pool or beach chairs, towels, and changing facilities with showers and lockers. This does not include any food and beverage, that would be separate. However, as December is a very busy time for us, the day passes are given out only if our occupancy level is not too high. The best thing to do is to call us when you arrive in Barbados from one of the local phones in the Port, and we will advise you on that day if you can come." We are definitely going to try to get in. If they are full, we will try the Hilton. If the Hilton is full, I guess we'll be walking around aimlessly!!

If the Hilton is full, I guess we'll be walking around aimlessly!! No you're not going to walk around aimlessly! You'll get a taxi to take you to Rockley Beach -that's what you tell the driver- and you'll have a great day there instead. VERY few people have ever been disappointed by Rockley Beach. ^ And you won't meet half your ship there. ;) .
