RCCL jobs and salary

Recommended Posts

I am interested in getting a job with RCCL, maybe as a Purser. I have been to royalcaribbean.hire.com and looked at the posting. Only problem is that nothing is listed about salary. I have a friend who is a waiter and I know they work basically off of tips on (small, small pay from RCCL). As a Purser, there are no tips, so I'm assuming a salary??? Any ideas of an e-mail or phone number of someone I can get in touch with?

I just had an interview for a youth staff position this morning with a recruiting agency that also places junior pursers for RCCL. I will email you the agency.

It's not against any laws, and it is part of the collective bargaining agreement negotiated between their union (Norwegian Seafarers Union) and Royal Caribbean.

Mark I dont think the CBA would involve the NSU for non Norwegian flagged vessels? maybe when Royal was predominantly Norwegian Flagged but who knows now?

They negotiate the CBA for employees of 14 cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean. In total, they represent nearly 50,000 cruise line workers.

Here's a short article from the Norwegian Consulate website, if you're interested:

I worked one contract for NCL way back in the early 1980's. Then the only American's working on the S.S. Norway were cruise staff, pursers, shop girls, and some casino staff of which I was hired. I started out a $300 a month, room and board and tips. I was promoted to Supervisor which paid $600 a month and tips. It was about what I was making in Las Vegas taking in consideration room and board. The hours were very long. I worked 11 days with 1 day off. During sea days 2:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The casino was closed during port days but once at sea the casino would open usually from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The work was very hard. Imagine working those hours and having to keep a smile on your face. Cruise lines usually only hire people with experience in the positions that are available. I would recommend getting experience first then applly. The casino was not run by NCL but by a company from Switzerland who hired staff.
