Ship Ice Rinks - Real or Faux?

Escalator was a brand name as well. I think the story is that the Otis Elevator company bought the patent and the name for the original inventor. They did not protest the common repeated usage of the name by others quick enough for the trademark office, and they deemed the word to be a common noun.

More than you wanted to know and cannot swear by the accuracy. May just be a business urban myth
