Next best book

Amazon.com just told me the new 2008 Jan Prince Tahiti book won't be out until May, which is after our trip. Now I'm looking for the best "runner up" to buy & take with. The 2005 version? Or a newer book by someone else, like Frommer?

I've gotten a ton of different travel books for the region and I would go with the 2005 Jan Prince book. From all the research I've done for our upcoming trip and this past one there, it is the most bang for your buck! It has lots of info, just be aware that some things(like ownership of hotels, availability of services, etc) might have changed when you read it.

I also loved the "Hidden Tahiti" book. It was really well rounded with lots of info and interesting facts.

Jan Prince's book ( late 2005 ) is my daily homework reading with tons of valid information.

 

For the price ( $ 24.00 ) still the best value around. I trust the local presence of the writer more than any visiting travel writers. The task to replace/ update 900 pages is monumental this explains the delay for the 2008 issue.

I too had the new Jan Prince on order, and since I was unwilling to wait I ordered her 2005 edition on meherio's advice. I am not disappointed!

In addition to Prince's 2005 and Moon's 2003, I also have Frommer's Tahiti & French polynesia - First edition 2007.

 

It is also a very good reference book.
