:D In response to the posts about SWA fuel hedge running out this year. Not true. We are hedged for the future as well.

 

The Hedges that are expiring are the ones at ridiculously low prices.

 

According an annual report, here is the company's fuel hedge for forward years ("approximate" per barrel basis, as of mid-January): 2007 is 95% hedged at $50/barrel; 2008 is 65% hedged at $49/barrel; 2009 is over 50% hedged at $51/barrel; 2010 is over 25% hedged at $63/barrel; 2011 is over is 15% hedged at $64/barrel; 2012 is 15% hedged at $63/barrel.

 

So yes, you have hedges but hedges at a MUCH higher price. SWA is now going to feel the pain the others have been facing for a couple years now.

We tried to book with SW for 8 from NM but it would not let us. We split up the families and book 5. We were able to do that and immediately went to book the other 3 and the price went up.:mad:

The price didn't go up. What probably happened is that there were not 8 seats available at the cheaper rate. That's why you couldn't buy 8 but could buy 5.

 

This has happened to us on AirTran a couple times.

We are flying from Philly to Fort Lauderdale on July 20th and got flight from Southwest for $89 down and $98 back for a total of $217 RT. The cruise line offered us flight at $369 so we definitely saved money from southwest. My BF and her family are flying the same day to meet us on AirTran from Philly to Fort Lauderdale and got the exact same price with them!

Just wait a bit with Southwest Flights. I do this all the time. Download the DING Fare with them. You computer will DING you with special prices for Southwest. It takes about a month for the prices to go down on South West. And also normally, so does everyone else. I live in Pittsburgh and we fly to Miami. Prices are always really high. But normally about 3 - 4 monthes, the price will drop.
