Best Tahitian/Marquesas Island for Car Rental?

We're going on the Tahitian Princess next month.... I know that on some islands it is possible to rent a car and sightsee independently...

 

What's the best island(s) to do this on? Which islands have a decent of roads to drive?

 

We're taking our 80+ year old grandparents who are semi-mobile, so looking for the best island to drive them around!

Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahiti, Huahine - we did circle island tours on all of these and the roads are just fine, if you're in a vehicle with suspension! The old Le Trucks were a little brutal in Huahine. Woulnd't suggest those for your grandparents. If you check with Avis or hertz, both have offices on the various islands. If you chcek out our roll call (10/10/08 - really, really early...), I listed numbers for some of the smaller rental places. You can also try picking something up from the dock, which is what we did in Moorea. Just make sure you establish a price prior to the trip, so that there are no surprises afterwards.
