Going Once.......Twice......and For The Final Time......

Having just alighted from the MS Carnival Glory this morning, I am sorry to announce that John Heald (and Heidi) WILL be leaving Carnival Cruise Lines for the last time on Saturday 18th September 2004 and will be heading back to the United Kingdom to pursue other "land based" interests.

I have been fortunate enough to have cruised with John 9 times (and 3 times in the last 18 months), he has consistently generated enthusiasm amongst passengers who have cruised with him and is very well respected by all crew and staff on board the all the ships he has been fortunate to work on.

I spent a great deal of time during this week chatting to both John and Heidi -having surprised both of them and other CC Members when I boarded the Glory last Saturday (21st August) as part of an 'urgent' business trip I had made to come to the U.S.A.

This was 'my' recuperation cruise (that's my story and I'm sticking to it)......

Over the last year, there has been broad speculation as to the retirement of John as Cruise Director - and as we have seen, John and Heidi have been 'popping' up on various Carnival ships from time to time.

John asked me to thank everyone for their continued support over his 18 year career with Carnival Cruise Lines! He does not intend - nor am I going to breach his confidence and to go into the reasons for his decision as to why this has happened so abruptly, but do wish him and Heidi all the success in the future!

John - You (and YOUR Bedtime Story) WILL be sorely missed!

Good Luck Mate!!!

Well that just bumms me out. My wife just loved the cruises we spent with John. It is funny, but the last one was several years ago and John was leaving then. I guess it is for real this time and we certainly wish him well. "There's a buggar in the sugar,..." If John reads these posts, we'll always remember hurricane "Dick Woodin".

LIL BIRD,

That's so funny that you mentioned old Dick. We were on that cruise also,

and still laugh over that. It was probably one of the few times that John

was made speechless. And we still sing his little "buggar" song.

Latest from JH himself (e-mail from onboard the GLORY a few days ago) is late October / early November as to the time he and Heidi will be leaving CCL (Heidi is conducting a "Social Host College" for prospective hosts on the Glory in October) ......

BUT when it comes to JH......

You NEVER know!!

Brenda,

Small world. We took a group together for the first time on that cruise. We will be sailing with that group for the fourth time on the Miracle. The whole group will mourn the loss of John. By any chance do you remember the crazy group on the video dairy doing the "Who's your daddy?" stick. That was us. Matter of fact, "Daddy", was Trigger during some of John's fun and games. Now I'm really gonna miss John.

yes it's true..I was supposed to be on that cruise as well and due to few complications we had to book for Nov 20th and I am sooooo excited that John will still be there... I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag, but since it was already let out by someone else..I can confirm it...John will be on your sailing and on mine as well...YIPPPPPEEEEEEE!

There is no CD in the whole fleet as good as John...I can't wait to see him and Heidi again...I feel honored..

Wow, one more time with John! I read earlier that he would be leaving and thought, Oh well we won't have him on our 11-27 cruise. Really hope we do have him as we are bringing several newbies that have never had John as a CD. It alsways makes the cruise a little nicer when he's on board.

I just came back from the Glory on Sept. 18th, according to John, he will be retiring on Dec. 18th. He said he might come back to bring out the Liberty which will be sailing in Europe next year. I must say that this was my first experience with John, and after reading about him so often in these boards, he was everything that all of you said, GREAT.

Anyone who was on the Glory, did you see that Talent Show. I had to buy a copy of that tape, it was one for the books.

Hey there. I was on the Glory. John was the only thing that wants to make me cruise again. (well and maybe a few other crew members!) He was awesome ...I laughed so hard I cried. I hadn't expected all that and on my first cruise three years a go...I don't even remember having a CD! He's awesome. If I sent a letter to the glory, do you think he'd get it? or some office would file it in the rouond bin?:)

You are right.

I was on The Glory cruise last week, and John Heald said he was retiring on Dec18th, then when the Liberty was ready he would be working there for "a few weeks" to help them get the ship "off the ground", then retiring. He also said one of the reasons why he was retiring was that his parents are elderly and needed to be near them. I am so glad I got to be on the ship that he was working after hearing so many things about him!
