Jo is great..we sailed with her and Elliot on the Summit... With respect to St.Martin we were there last year (on a Sunday) and with the exception of a few restaurants EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED. It was a a disappointment. So we went back to the Dutch side and everything was open.

Hi boquer...

jo...(Hi jo!) was with us too... on the Jan 5/08 Panama Canal cruise out of LA and that cruise ended in San Juan.

We continued on with the SUMMIT for the next cruise...Jan 19/08 Southern Caribbean. We docked in St Maarten/St Martin on that cruise and it was a Sunday too. We had a great tour with Joyce Prince... www.joyceprince.com saw the whole island. The Dutch side "shops" were open but the French side "shops" were not....we saw the odd cafe/bar open during our tour but we didn't stop... really not much activity on that side on Sundays....unless a ship is in and someone decides to open for awhile!? RIMAS's wasn't open either...I had been told to stop there for sure...maybe next time I'll get to shop there.

We had stopped at Maho Beach to see the BIG planes land...what an experience. If you go to "YouTube" and search "Maho Beach" you can view some videos showing this...really neat!

Hope this helps.

Pat :)

Hey Pat I have been told that you have to hold on to your towels while a plane is landing if you are on the beach. My older son told me you have to be there to really believe it.

Hi Michael!

YES...there's one spot on that beach where you aren't suppose to sit...stand or be in... during a "take off" because of the jet blast. Signs posted every where explaining the danger. That doesn't seem to stop people from doing it though?!

Here's a link to some videos....Check out the "JET BLAST" video down a little in the list of videos to view.

We were more into see the BIG planes "land"...as they are not to far off the ground over the beach area as the landing strip starts right there too.

Enjoy!

Pat :)
