Karkies25 Posted February 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2008 :) Greetings! :) We were thinking of visiting Akko on our stop in Haifa. It is about 30mins away from the port (via public transportation). Can anyone comment or advise on whether this is a worthwhile place to visit? Here's the map of Akko and the official website: http://www.akko.org.il/English/Map/default.asp Thanks and Happy Travels!

whale-watcher Posted February 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2008 We stopped there for lunch and to visit the marketplace when I was in Israel a few years ago. We did not spend any time touring the historic sites (from the crusades) but I understand that they are very interesting. The town itself is in a picturesque location on the seacoast. Nebr.cruiser Posted February 21, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2008 We really enjoyed the crusader ruins at Acre, as well as the town. The castle site on the sea is beautiful.

Ephraim Posted March 8, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 8, 2008 I've been to Akko (Acre) many years ago. It's a beautiful little town with a history that dates back to the crusades. A very different feeling than you get in a city like Haifa which is so modern and open. Reminded me more of Jerusalem in it's feel and stone, except for the sea being there, of course. Lookeylew Posted March 29, 2008 #12 Share Posted March 29, 2008 We were there about 20 years ago on an Israeli 10 Day Tour. It was fascinating to see the crusader fort. It's very well preserved. Also, there was a prison built over the fort that was used in current times. Did you read the book or see the movie "EXodus". They showed it in the movie. We are going on a cruise next fall and will be going back to see it again. I highly recommend it.
