Hotel suggestion for Kobe?

We're going to fly in on 3/25 and stay at the Hilton in downtown Osaka. It will be our first trip to this area as well, but using Hilton points is what made us choose this path. I've not put a lot of research into using the train to get to Kobe, but am encouraged that the ship leaves so late now on 3/26. We won't feel rushed and can catch up on jetlag.

Happy travels.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel in Kobe? We will be there 3 nights before our cruise starting on March 26. We have reservations at Portopia, but only based on a web search, no one's personal experience. Any comments are more than welcome!

Thanks!

Portopia is a nice hotel. I have never stayed there, but heard good things about it. The only catch of that hotel is that there is really nothing around it, except for, well, the Portopia. However, you can always take the Portliner to Sannnomiya where there is much action.

Osaka, where there is a whole lot of action, is not far at all by train, and even Kyoto isn't hard to get to. The train to take is the JR West's Shin-Kaisoku, which has an English name of Special Rapid Service. Not as fast as the famed Shinkansen, but much cheaper and plenty fast.
