Self Serve Laundrey

Wondering if anyone has used the self serve laundries and what experiences you've had. Are they worth it? best time of day, etc.

We always pack way to much and this time my husband insists we are packing half what we need :( and washing everything on board.

While my DW would have two answers for me insisting laundry be done on board:

1. Have fun and let me know how it was.

2. Let's say we take 9 cruises and I'll get on that on the tenth (I took option 2)

I agree with you DH..pack less and use the Laundry Room.....make sure you bring a roll of quarters with you.....I did mine Early in the morning...like 7am....it was not busy then but it started to get busy as i was finishing.....i say do it real early or late....and try not to do it during a sea day

I did this on Freedom and it worked out great. Came back from port at lunchtime one day and it was a ghosttown. Put my clothes in the washer, went to grab something quick at the buffet. When I came back down, it was time for dryer. Finished up in time to go back to port.

They have laundry soap and softener dispensers. Bring quarters with you. I found it difficult to get quarters at Purser's desk.

that site will tell you where laundry rooms are located for every ship and all those other wonderful things that we need to know.

I don't take quarters. I just take a $100 and feed it into the slot machine on the first night, play a game, cash out, and ask the cashier for lots of $1s and $5s to use as tips and other costs on shore. I divide it up and put it in the safe. You can "change" down from larger bills at any time in the casino when you aren't in port.

No way am I lugging quarters around nor am I packing a wad of $1 bills.

DD 21 & I sailed on Miracle in December and it was our 1st 7-day in several years. I took a ton of clothes and was sure we'd run out. Still managed with 1 suitcase each and one carry-on (but then, we don't pack cases of water and soda). We came home with about 1/3 of our clothes unworn. Next time, I'm cutting back even more!

Does anyone know where they are located on the Conquest? Once before I remember seeing a link to where it showed they were, but I failed to save it. We will be in 8220. Thanks.

Just got back from Pride. Packed only a carry ons for entire cruise thinking we would do laundry on board. The laundry facilities were always busy with a wait for use...as well...the washers are not in operation while docked in ports of call. We will pack more on next cruise and not worry about when/if we can get a washing machine, or if we need to get up at 4am to do laundry.

PS: I noticed that cruisers would take out items left in dryers and place on the floor, if the owner of the clothes was not right there to remove them after drying completed.

So is the busiest time for doing laundry is on sea days only or other times as well? We will try to do it either early in the morning or late at night, and hopefully we won't run into any problems.

Also, a previous poster mentioned that the washers are not in operation while docked in ports of call...does this include the Alaskan ports as well? We were hoping to do some laundry right after we board the ship in Whittier.

The washer and dryer takes $2 in quarters, and there is one on each deck. We did two loads and it took awhile. Tip: make sure you check inside the machines before putting clothes in, I found some dark spots on my whites from one of the washers. Another lesson was don't use the powder detergent they provide, it doesn't dissolve very well. Get the liquid kind that comes in a tube (travel size) works great.
