Star gazing from the ship

We love to see the stars at night. I would think that Alaska would give you great star gazing. Can you see the stars while cruising the inside passage at night? Are they bright? We are cruising mid August and was wondering if there would be less city lights to dim them.

You don't have the city lights, but the ship is well lit. Finding a good location might be difficult. Also, with the extended daylight hours it will be even more of a challenge. If you have a cruise tour, the land portion might provide a better opportunity.

As long as you have clear skies, and you should in mid August, you should be able to find places on the ship where you will have great views of the stars and particualrly later at night and into the early morning hours. The darker spots on the ship will generally be closer to the front of the ship as they darken this area for vision from the bridge.

As you can see from my login I also love the stars. But you only really see them

on the southern part of Alaska. Due the the extended daylight hours and the

more north you go the lighter the nights get.

For example we were in Juneau on July 4th. The city set off fireworks at

12:30AM. It was just dark enough to see the fireworks.

But if you on the front of the ship it will most likely be the darkest spot.

Everywhere had to make allowances for the long periods of daylight. The street celebration with street food and local performers was great, however. A small town feel for the 4th was a really nice experience.

Unfortunately we wont be in any port late enough. Oh well, fro what I have been reading on this board the day light views will be incredible.

Thanks for the info, Mike

I hope you do get a night view to go along with the fantastic daylight vistas Alaska offers.

Have a great cruise.
