Barcelona on Sunday

Our family will be spending the day in Barcelona in May prior to boarding.Will there be plenty of activity on Las Ramblas after we visit Sagrada Familia that morning? other suggestions for a Sunday in Barcelona welcomed. Thanks!

Barcelona is a tourist city and Sunday is no different to any other day. That's what we found anyway! You'll pretty much find everything as normal.

 

The only place we've been to that seemed 'shut' on a Sunday was Krakow in Poland - but I think that was because it was Easter Sunday at the time and they're very into Easter!

Go to the Cathedral ( not the Sagrada Familia but the one in the Barrio Gotico) and see Barcelonians dance La Sardana in front of the Cathedral. This is their national dance.They do it around noon.

Hi there - I have twice been to Barcelona over a weekend period - never found it any different to any other day. Barcelona is a beatiful city - enjoy but as in any tourist city beware of pickpockets!!

Depending on the ages of your children. A visit to the home of Barcelona Football Club at the Nou Camp Stadium is great. But it's only open on Sundays from 10-2.

Me personally. I could happily:) sit in a cafe on the Ramblas and just watch the world go by.

Back there in October for my fourth visit to BCN. My wifes second visit, and the first time for my boys. Can't wait.:) :)

We also love Barcelona. Great atmosphere and so many things to see and do. A few things are not open on Sunday.The famous market on Ramblas is not open also some of the larger shops, banks, etc. You can however go to the beach, take the HOHO bus and visit the two beautiful cathedrals already mentioned. If you visit the cathedrals at any time make sure that you do not wear sleeveless T-shirts. I am almost 60 and don't wear bra tops and bare midriff (I wish) but I was refused entry to the Cathedral in the Barrio Gotico because I was wearing a sleeveless top (boring and non-revealing). I have been in there on several occasions when I was wearing a short sleeved top. My DH had knee length shorts and a T-shirt and he was fine. Just a heads up.

We disembarked from our cruise here on a Sunday morning..... went straight to our hotel where they allowed us early check-in. We then headed to Sagrada Familia and then back to our hotel on Las Ramblas. Walked the entire length and back..... Market was closed but everything else was open for business :) Lots of vendors and even a flea market at the end by the marina.

Wouldn't really recommend spending much time on the Ramblas - it's nothing special really - very commercialised and the place where you are most likely to come across some less than wholesome characters.

Agree that seeing the locals dance the sardana is brilliant - all ages participate.

Sagrada Familia is unmissable - but beware of the queues.

From there you could get a taxi to Parc Guell, another Gaudi creation worth seeing (but only if you have plenty of time).

Am a bit of a Gaudi fan, so can also recommend getting up onto the roof of La Pedrera on the Passeig de Gracia.

The advantage of a Sunday is less traffic, buses and cabs will be quicker.

Only bad quality souvenir shops will be open. For shopping Maremagnum a mall at the old por is an option, it's open on Sundays.

Be careful for restaurants, Barceloners love to eat out on week-ends, reservation needed.

We thoroughly enjoyed a bicycle tour in Barcelona with Fat Tire Tours. Very interesting with informative guides and easy riding terrain...
