Venice to Princess ship Transfers

Recommended Posts

Frankly, Venice airport to pier sounds like a nightmare to me from what I've read so far.

Is anyone familiar with Princess transfers from airport to ship?

What form of transfer is it (bus, car, water taxi)? Direct to pier? Cost?

Thanks for any info,

Jack

Venice airport to the pier directly is no problem at all - if you don´t want to mess about with buses, just hop in a taxi and get him to take you directly to the ship check in hall. Should cost around 40 Euro.

Sorry, I don`t know about ship transfers, but don`t be put off about the airport to pier situation. Even with buses it`s OK, it sounds a lot more complicated than it is really.

Taf,

Thanks for your quick and simple reply. I was reading in some thread about an 80 year-old woman walking 3/4 of a mile hauling her luggage and it didn't sound very pretty.

Does the taxi take you directly to the pier or is there a significant walk after you're dropped off?

Thank you again,

Jack

Hi Jack

The taxi should be able to drop you right inside the port near to the luggage drop off area. Just make sure he knows which cruise line it is, as there are different luggage holding areas. With the luggage tags on your cases, provided in advance from the cruise line, you drop your luggage off in the holding area, then without luggage proceed to the check in area which is usually a different building. From there, once you`ve checked in, there should be a short bus ride to the ship itself - again, organised by the cruise line. The last few times we were with RCCL and the bus ride is maybe 2/3 minutes directly to the ship gangway. There are usually not more than 3 cruise ships in at one time, so it`s quite manageble.

The long walk people are refering to, may be the walk from Piazza de Roma which is the last part of the mainland before Venice Island starts to the port (also on the mainland). This would be a pain is you were walking with luggage.

If you are going directly from the airport to the ship then a taxi is the easiest & most direct way to go.

One other top tip, is to make sure you are on the left (port?) side of the ship on deck for sailaway - you will enjoy the most spectacular views of st. Marks & Venice as you sail past.

Our travel agent treated us to the Princess Transfers from the airport in Venice to the ship. As soon as you cleared customs Princess Staff were available to take your luggage (if your name was on their manifest) and direct you outside to waiting buses. As soon as the bus was filled they left for the 20 minute trip to the port. We next saw our luggage when it was in our cabin.
