Rough sailing out of NY in June?

Recommended Posts

What is your experience cruising out of Cape Liberty, NJ?

I have only sailed out of Florida into the Caribbean but have heard the seas are rougher out of the NY area.

Anyone have any experience they can share? We are sailing next week, June 28.

TIA!

It can vary, there is no way of knowing. We have not sailed out of NJ, but we have sailed out of Boston a few times. They seas have been different. One was very calm and warm and another was very cool on deck and choppy. They were at the same time of year

Hi

It depends on the weather.

We were on the Explorer 9 night to Bermuda, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico that left Bayonne on June 5. The whole sailing was like glass. You barely knew you were on a moving ship.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you are as lucky as we were.

Enjoy

Noreen

We're on the same sail! (June 28th)!

We've sailed out of Cape Liberty (& NY) many times. Actually, all our cruises except one has been from either NY or NJ. The seas can be rougher but nothing to be too concerned about at all...If anyone in your party is prone to sea sickness, premedicate with Bonnine but I doubt you will need to.

Hope to see you on roll call!!!

(Ive posted many pics of Explorer and Bermuda)

No way to tell. Cruising south, it's always tricky around Cape Hatteras; north, you have Cap Cod.

Keep in mind that out of Florida, you are in protected waters mostly. The Gulf or the Caribbean. From NY, you are in the open seas of the North Atlantic.

It can be a little choppy after you come under the Verazanno bridge only because of the currents. There are three rivers hitting the ocean at almost the same spot but after about an hour it can calm down.
