Help identify trophy on the Queen Mary 2?

O.K., I can answer that. The trophy is the Britannia Cup, given to Cunard's first ship by the city of Boston in 1840. Boston was the original United States port, and the Britannia brought the mail as well as provided regular liner service. The cup is silver, and was kept at one time in the Columbia dining room of the QE2, then kept in the hall behind the Yacht Club (it was there in 2003) and then placed on the QM2. It's a good thing, because everything on the QE2 is going to be passed over to the folks in Dubai.

Hi

And (I understand) is missing it's lid which was not found after the cup and it's lid were stolen in the early 1970's for a brief period (the cup was, obviously, recovered). I'm afraid I've no further details about this crime.

The cup was presented to Samuel Cunard by the City of Boston (2,500 citizens contributed) on completion of the maiden voyage of the Britannia on 18th July 1840 (she arrived at 2200) after a crossing of just over 14 days (she had stopped en-route for 8 hours in Halifax). I believe it's been on the QM2 since 2004 (was it originally outside of the Empire Casino? I'm sure I saw it there in 2006, I could be wrong).
