Snorkel Equipment

My family was thinking about buying snorkel equipment for our trip. Does anyone know of where we could get some decent ones that aren't too expensive Also, what brand is good, and how do you know if they fit?

Most dive shops will have decent equipment.

As far as how you know it will fit, try it on. With the mask put it on then suck in through you nose while keeping your mouth shut. The mask should seal around your face without leaking any air.

Again, a good dive shop should be able to help you get a good fit with all your needs.

I purchased snorkle, fins, and mask with a carry bag for my DH and I at Sam's. I think they were "Body Glove". They worked pretty good and having the back pact to carry the stuff and our extras was good. I like the snorkles because they had that valve that prevented the water from splashing down in it. When you dive down it closes it off. I think each set was $49.00

Previous posters have made good suggestions. I'd base your purchase $ on the amt. of future snorkeling you plan to do. We buy Body Glove for the kids, but have finally purchased a new strap that doesn't pull your hair (sooo much better!) for me to go along with our other gear. Oshmans and Academy have good selections right now if they are an option.

www.snorkel-mart.com has been very helpful to me. They even do prescription masks for a very resonable price. It's more than the Sam's packet but if you plan to snorkel more than once or twice I think of it as an investment.

Keep in mind that with RCCL if you want to snorkel at their private island, you are required to wear a floatation device. I believe RCCL charges you $6.00 for use of theirs. All other lines allow you to use theirs free of charge if you bring your own fins etc. Just a heads up, I was very surprised at the charge.

Happy Cruising!
