Hydrofoil from Naples to Capri

Recommended Posts

How far is the Hydrofoil station from the area where the cruise ships dock.

Want to know how far we have to go to get back to the ship when we return from Capri so we can plan the latest time we can leave Capri.

Does anyone know if you can buy Hydrofoil tickets on line?

The hydrofoil station is across the parking lot from the cruise terminal. Just go out the doors and walk to the left. It depends on the berth, but the walk shouldn't take more than 10-12 minutes or so on the return. Some ships are docked really close, others, a pretty good hike.

BTW, make sure you buy your return ticket BEFORE you start touring the island. It can get very crowded and space can sell out quickly.

The hydrofoil to Capri is the easiest self touring option in the Med and we loved Capri. As the other poster said, just wlk across the parking lots to the ticket booths.

We got the schedules on board at the Princess pursers desk.

Dont take the last possible trip back, give yourself a little leeway and buy your tickets when you get to Capri. For some reason, the Italian ticket booth seemed very behind the times, we couldnt seem to get a round trip ticket. And they dont have any self ticketing machines.

Just be careful to return to right port in Naples. Many do not know that they have jet boats/hydrofoils to both "Molo Beverello" (this is what you want in order to be next to the cruise ship pier) and "Mergellina" (more than a mile from the cruise ships). As has already been mentioned, buy your return ticket as soon as you arrive on Capri (you will be in Marina Grande). The ticket booth is at the end of the pier (on your right) and they have the current schedule posted. Also be careful if you are taking a mid-afternoon (after 3 pm) boat back to Naples on a day when there are a few cruise ships in Naples. There can often be a long line to get back down to the Marina (you need to go on the funicular) and a 10 minute ride can take 45 min. Its best to give yourself at least 45 min, and once you are at the bottom there are plenty of shops and cafes to fill your time while waiting for the boat.

Thanks to all for the info. What we're planning on doing is taking the earliest Hydrofoil to Capri that we can get. Start at the highest point on the island and work our way to the dock visiting Anacapri & Capri on our way. We will be taking a 3 hr. boat trip around the Isle then getting the hydrofoil around 5pm to get back to the ship which sails at 7pm.

Is this doable or do we run the risk of missing the ship? We plan on getting our return tickets as soon as we get to Capri.

IMHO you're cutting it a little close. We've always come back around 3:30 and last time we were lucky we made it back at all. There were terrible thunderstorms and the hydrofoils were running late due to the incredibly rough seas. Also, we were some of the first passengers off the ship but lines for the hydrofoil were really long and the earliest one we could get was 11am. Everything before that was sold out.

I gave a little thought to the idea of taking a 5:00 boat back to Naples. Assuming that the boat was operating on time, you would probably dock at Naples at about 5:50 (make sure your hydrofoil is going to the Molo Beverello port). Allowing 15 min to get off the boat, and walk back to the ship you would be cutting it pretty close. Personally, we would probably do this kind of thing, but than we are very comfortable in Europe. But, my one caveat when we cut things this close is, can we catch-up to the ship the following day in case we were to miss the ship?

As to the real risk, we have been to Capri at least 5 times (getting too senile to remember the exact number) and the boats we took were always pretty much on-time (a few minutes late would be common on a windy day). But this is Italy, where anything can happen at any time (its one of the charms of traveling in Italy).
