I really need help & info about NCL Spirit

We have done several lines but never NCL...But there are 2 cruises out of New Orleans (drive time 5 hours) next month and 1 is the NCL Spirit and one is the Carnival Fantasy. We have sailed the Fantasy before (5 night) so we know what to expect. The Spirit is a 7 day and that is no problem either. Believe it or not the prices are really comparable for same type cabins. I have a few questions for those that have sailed Spirit..(Tried the search site & it was not working)

Do the Spirit cabins have a refrigerator ?

Is it true the voltage is 220 not 110 and you need a convertor ?

How are the hot tubs ? Are they hot ?

How are the beds & linens ?

Can you order a wine package such as the one on RC & CCL ?

Is the room service menu good ?

Anything else that I need to know specific to this ship.

Thank you in advance for all of your help. I tend to take all negative reviews with a grain of salt because perception is all.

Most balcony and below do not. That may change with the dry-dock in November though

Is it true the voltage is 220 not 110 and you need a convertor ?

The Spirit has outlets for both 110 and 220. May need to bring a power strip if you are using multiple appliances and chargers at the same time though

How are the hot tubs ? Are they hot ?

Not sure, but I'm ready to find out :p

How are the beds & linens ?

Brand new bedding and linens are in the process of being installed throughout the ship as part of the 2.0 upgrades. The initial reports back are very good and positive.

Can you order a wine package such as the one on RC & CCL ?

Not sure as I'm not much of a wine drinker. NCL DOES have a great romance package for $79 that includes a bottle of sparklinf wine and strawberries at embarkation, dinner for two in Le Bistro with a bottle of house red or white wine, A champagne and cake party on a sea day, canapes in your stateroom one afternoon, and a free 5X7 photo. Really one of the best "package" deals at sea. Bringing wine on board from home carries a $15 a bottle corkage fee.

Is the room service menu good ?

The new fresstyle 2.0 room service menu's look like a significant improvement over the old menu's. There's now hot breakfast items and new sandwhich and hot food options. Do a search because I know there's a copy of the new room service menu that's been on here recently

Anything else that I need to know specific to this ship.

Great child care facilities. Lots of art onboard. Asian theme. Really nice wraparound promenade deck. Bathrooms in the balcony cabins are exceptional and feature a fully enclosed glass shower.

Thank you in advance for all of your help. I tend to take all negative reviews with a grain of salt because perception is all.

And if your sail date is going to be December 7th, you'll get to meet me and my DW (OK that probably isn't any motivation to book :p)

Not worried about the child care as we are both looking forward to great grands...But we are wine lovers and have always been able to bring onboard or purchase a package prior to sailing. Thank you for the information. We are

looking at the Nov. 23 sailing. When does she go into drydock. That may have a bearing on what we do.

NCL does have wine you can pre-purchase. I can't seem to find the list on their website but if you call 866-625-1166 they should be able to help you. I believe it's the same price as it would be if you ordered it in one of the venues on the ship. I remember buying 6 reds or 6 whites on HAL for a reduced fee and that was nice. NCL doesn't have that program.

You can also bring your favorite wine on with you and pay $15 corkage fee.

Happy sailing!

By the time you pay the corkage fee you can purchase on board. Do you know what upgrades they are going to do. The Fantasy was just upgraded.

yes it was but read the comments about it on the Carnival site plus I have had 2 clients recently (in the past month or so) cruise her, both were very disappointed.

Carnival has bigger cabins and you will get a better deal on wine probably.

Reports are the beds and linens are excellent;

Room service menu, about like the rest, nothing special but it has been improved upon since 2.0 went into affect so probably better than Carnivals.

as

Voltage is the same as all lines. You may want a power strip, depending on how many gadgets you want plugged in at once.

Yes they have hot tubs, how hot I do not know.

Lots of dining choices and the ship decor is supposed to be very nice. We are sailing her on Nov 30th.

Hope this helps a little.

Hey,

I was on the Spirit on a back to back 15 night cruise from New York. The manager/reciptionist was really nice and i told him i was on a back to back (didnt know if that mattered or not ) and i had to put my eye medicine in a refridigerator. So, he immediately gave me an ice cooler to be rechanged every morning and told me he would try and get me an refridgerator asap. So, 2 days later. I got a refridgerator and i put all my cans of soda in there and everything.

I forgot about the bed and linens. I was out til 2am and woke up at 8 or 9am to play. So, you really shouldnt care about that. It's really fun watching shows, casino and other stuff on the cruise.

And you HAVE to take out or dine in on the Tiramisu and cheesecake at the La Trattoria. On the 12th floor i think. It's free.

And, i havent tried room service but i know you can take out from other restaurants and im sure that that should be better than room service.

Have fun on the Spirit.

It was a really good expirence.

The Spirit is a great ship. I also loved the Fantasy. I have been on the Spirit 2X before and am seriously thinking of booking it again to Bermuda in September. I think you'll have a wonderful time.
