Pirates anyone?

Anyone out there on the last Star Clipper trans-Indian Ocean cruise? I understand that armed escort through the Somali pirate area was provided by a warship. As we're taking this cruise next year, I would love to hear any details. Let's see.....rioting in Greece, Islamic terrorists in Egypt, Somali pirates off Africa and the Red Sea, more Islamic terrorists in India, Tamil Tigers in Scrilanka, and rioters in Thailand. Did I miss anybody? I also heard on BBC that the EU is stepping up efforts to protect freighters and tankers. However, there are no similar plans to protect cruise ships. Doesn't that make us all feel safer as passengers (NOT!)?

My wife and I were on the Star Clipper from Athens to Qoa India in Oct 2008. We were escourted from the start of the Gulf of Aden to

Oman by a destoyer(DDG-72) fron the USA. There are some pics if you would like to see them. My E.MAIL is cornaeddy@yahoo.com. We had a wonderful 24 days on the Star Clipper and will do it again and go all the way to Phukrt.

No pirates in French Polynesia on Star Flyer!!! S.

Good thing that there'll be no pirates in French Polynesia -- we sail on the Star Flyer on 2/15/09!

We had several of them show up....for dinner one night! ;) I didn't know there was going to be a 'dress-up' night

Ah yes, that would be the Guided Missile Destroyer USS Mahan. You were in better hands that Allstate.
