St. Maarten question

I have been to St. Maarten a few times in the past, and will be stopping there on my next cruise (3/21-28/09 Serenade of the Seas). Due to the economy I have to cut corners. Usually I would just buy the excursion to Orient Beach from RCCL and not care that it is awful pricey for a ride to the beach. What are my best options as far as taking a taxi instead? Does anyone know what the charge would be approximately? What is the current cost of renting a beach chair? Any help would be very much appreciated.

We always cab it out to Orient. I recall paying something on the order of about $16 - $18 each way for two of us which includes the tip.

 

Most drivers will drop you off at Pedros (between the topless and nude sides) unless you ask. We always have our driver drop us off at Kon-Tiki instead.

That much? Well suddenly the $42 excursion fee is just about even all told since I'm single and would not be splitting the cost.

Don't know how current this is, but it should give you an idea......

There are taxi's all over the place once you leave the pier security area.

We rented a car from Avis. It was only around $25 for the day. We were able to go all around the island (strongly recommend Marigot). It was only a short walk when we got off the ship. One of our best days in a port!
