Ken076 Posted March 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Is it reasonable to walk from Sutton Place to Canada Place Cruise Pier with (rolling) Luggage? Otherwise is there a shuttle or Taxis (for 4 persons + Luggage)? What reasonable places are there for Breakfast very close to Sutton Place? Thanks, Ken
Urban trekker Posted March 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2009 There is a Denny's restaurant across the street from the Sutton place - and yes it is feasible to walk the short distance to Canada Place - downhill by the way. Hope this helps Cheers Dennis

Tweedy Posted March 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 7, 2009 The walk from the Sutton Place to Canada Place is approximately 4 blocks. The Denny's, Urban Trekker mentioned, is currently closed. Whether they are doing renos or not, I'm not sure but the windows have paper on them. In the same direction as Canada Place, two blocks down at the corner of Burrard and Georgia is a Tim Horton's and a McDonald's. Tim Horton's is great for breakfast and really reasonable but very busy Mon-Fri first thing in the morning.
Putterdude Posted March 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2009 The walk from the Sutton Place to Canada Place is approximately 4 blocks. The address of the Sutton Place is 845 Burrard which makes it at least 7 blocks off the water so it it is closer to 8 blocks from Canada Place...but I didn't know about Denny's being currently closed. Denny's in BC is owned by the Garlardi family and that is why you know often see them as part of Sandman Inns....I know, then why is Moxies in the Sandman on W. Georgia?... well if the Garlardi's don't own Moxies then it is because it is part of the Kamloops conection. Back on topic...it just may be that the rent expectations of the landlord has precluded them from renewing their lease (just speculation on my part). Let's hope that they are just doing a reno.:)
Urban trekker Posted March 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted March 7, 2009 I wasn't aware that that location was closed - the Davie street one was recently renovated so perhaps that is what is happening - was by there the other day albeit on the other side of the street and didn't noticed anything - will check it out - also heard a rumor some time ago that Denny's would be closing and that another restaurant would be moving into the space. That have been a number of restaurant closure - PD are you aware that the Macaroni Grill on Davie has been closed for awhile - a friend pointed it out to me as we were driving to the Davie St liquor store the other day. Putterdude Posted March 7, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2009 No I was not aware that the Marcaroni Grill was closed but I haven't been in the location for years...who was in that location before...I was there but have forgotten..was it part of the Hy's empire??? As for Denny's on Burrard...some of the lower cost restaurants...like Denny's are having a tough time with their rent costs vs. the amount of business they can actually do. As so many restaurants work on the "greater fool" principle...well there is always some who will fill the spot. But as I said, lets hope this isnt the demise of Denny's in that location; I kind of like their "Seniors' Menu" at least down here. But I will share with you the greatest deal of all time...we have a native casino, hotel, resort about 10 mins from us here that has a 99 cent breakfast which inlcudes 2 eggs any style, ham, hash browns, toast and if you are a verteran (including CDN naval reserve) you get your coffee free. Heck you can't wash the dishes for 99 cents... guess where we eat once a week.:D Man talk about off topic...got to get to bed...having a garage sale tomorrow...trying to put together enough loot to pay for the trip home.;)
Tweedy Posted March 7, 2009 #9 Share Posted March 7, 2009 True, the address equals about 7 blocks but I was thinking from street to street. They are big blocks between Robson and Georgia and Georgia and Dunsmuir. In walking time, it's about 10 minutes, if that.
Urban trekker Posted March 7, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Yes it might have been part of the Hy's empire - remember it is the old mansion on Davie - already a couple of windows have been boarded up - ah yes the Denny's Senior menu - have eaten off of it at the Davie location many times - not as good of a deal as in the US - to keep this on topic I think I will CRUISE on over to the fridge and start breakfast and then since the snow is nowhere in sight and the sun is rising and shining into my condo perhaps I will CRUISE out for a day trip somewhere. Putterdude Posted March 7, 2009 #11 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Yes, that was it, Hy's at the Mansion. I think the mansion was once the home of the Rogers family.
Urban trekker Posted March 7, 2009 #12 Share Posted March 7, 2009 Yes it was the home of the Rogers family. Denny's is closed and being ripped apart so something is going in there. There is a large thank you sign in the window directing you to the two other closest locations. Cheers Dennis
NWWanderer Posted March 8, 2009 #13 Share Posted March 8, 2009 I've stayed at the Sutton Place quite a few times and my favorites for breakfast are to either get croissants at the little bakery in front of the hotel (turn left towards Robson) or walk a few blocks to the White Spot at Seymour and W Georgia. We love White Spot--probably because we don't have them here in Seattle ;-).
HillbillyInBC Posted March 8, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 8, 2009 My favourite place for breakfast around here is a few blocks west of Sutton Place. La Bretagne Creperie on Jervis, next door to the Starbucks at the corner of Robson and Jervis. I'm planning to stop in there for brunch later this morning. Yep, the Gaglardi's company (Northland Properties) own Moxies and Heartland restaurants as well. It's amazing how well you can do when you can sub-let the govt paving crews
