Adventure of the Seas Questions

We are booked for next year...Adventure of the Seas out of San Juan and our first B2B. Feb 7th and Feb 14th/10.

And of course I have questions.

The ship sails at 8:30pm. Wondering what time they allow you on ship.

We are staying at Hotel El Convento. And transportation is arranged with RCI.

Wondering what happens the day we return to SJ and the second part of our cruise begins. Does RCI offer excursions, etc? Or can we just get off and explore ourselves.

I know the ship offers a soda card. Do they offer any other type of card?

Princess offers a soda, coffee or icecream card.

Thank you in advance.

Anna:)

They will start boarding new passengers as soon as they clear the ship of all the old passengers! Noon should be a good time, but since you have RCI transfers, you'll have to go with their timetable!

You can book a ship's excursion or do it on your own...your choice.

Aside from buying wine as a package, there are no other "cards" except for the soda card. You can buy soda by the can, if you don't want to invest in a soda card, because you don't drink enough to make it pay for itself.

Ice cream (frozen yogurt) is included in your fare. Specialty ice cream is charged to your account. And real icecream is available as dessert in the dining room--also included in your fare!

we actually sailed a bit later than that, but IIRC we were still on the ship around 1-we got to the pier maybe 11-since you are doing the RC shuttle though, I am not sure when you will go.....or how they do that/

depends...on our B2B out of FLL we had to wait and get off the ship last, we were escorted thru immigration then back onto the ship. you will get a letter explaining the procedure....make sure RC knows you are on a 'consecutive cruise' as they call them now...:p

after that though you should be free to do whatever.....they have attempted to make B2Bs more attractive..if you search here, there is a post with info on what they now do...like a preview of the next cruise's activities, etc.

i am not aware of any other cards..MAYBE a champagne card but this varies by ship ( not all have it.....and it is not well publicized)...other than that, it's just the soda card.

Thank you in advance.

Anna:)

i would also make sure to stop by guest relations when you get a chance on the 1st or 2nd day..they are supposed to link your new seapass account to your CC on file from the 1st leg..they said this in our letter and they fouled it up...........

we also didn't get out seapass ahead...they made it for us while we waited to get off the ship and back on. generally B2Bers are last to get off and 1st on...then after you, the new people come aboard!

THAT's really fun....watching the expressions...and you will already know everything!!!

have fun

Fabulous time, my favourite ship and departure port, you're going to love it! Our son stayed at that hotel and enjoyed it. You can board the ship at noon but the time we used RCI transport they took us at about 1:30. On the turnaround day RCI doesn't offer excursions but you can leave the ship, take a taxi and explore Old San Juan on your own until 5:00. I only know about the soda card which is worth it to us. A Ben & Jerry's ice cream card? Now that would be a very bad idea. :D

Hi. First, you will love the El Convento, it is just the most romantic hotel in the best location in OSJ. (Click on my AOS review link and the Shutterfly Picture site for loads of pics) You can get to the pier at 11:00am, they usually start boarding at 11:30am. For the debarkation, I would just explore on your own. (There are loads of options for luggage storage or you can use Luggage Valet.) The main thing I would recommend is cancelling the transfers through RCI, it's a big waste of money and time! You'll end up waiting for the bus to fill rather than heading right to your hotel. Cabs are cheap, safe and regulated (http://www.cabspr.com) and it is only around $20 for you to get to the El Convento from the airport. Join us over at the San Juan boards for loads of info as well.

The soda card is it. That being said, there's free soft serve ice cream in the afternoons up on one end of the pool deck. Normal coffee is also free -- I think you only pay for 'special' coffees like cappuccinos and such.

Thank you for all of the great advice. I wll definitelygo to the SJ boards as suggested.

Thanks again Anna:)

Great! See you there. There is a thread there about taking cabs instead of the transfers, transfers are such a royal waste of time, you literally will sit on a bus waiting for other flights to come in and the bus to fill. Looks like the latest price is $20 for a cab up to 4 people and $1 a bag. The cab stand is right outside the baggage claim and you will get a receipt telling you the price in advance, it's a great system.

In my opinion, it depends. If, for whatever reason, it made sense to book your air travel through Royal Caribbean, your transfers are already included. The wait for the transfer, at least in the case of my experiences in San Juan, isn't that bad.

(Other airports it also can make more sense to take the transfer -- for example, sailing out of Galveston you fly out of Houston which is about an hour's drive away.)

I would agree though, that in the case that I didn't already have the transfer included, I would probably pay for a cab instead of buying a transfer.
