Booking On Board Credit In Advance

Hi all.....this is a great thread for us Brits.

 

Sadly i cannot take advantage.

 

We came off the Grand in Feb 2009, and as is usual our lass started looking for next years cruise. Found a back to back for Feb 2010 and booked it a couple of weeks ago. Then found this informative thread and rang Princess to see what rate i was offered for the early purchase of OBC. Tried twice and only offered the $1.42 to £1 rate. That is a shame but proves the rate is set at the time the cruise is booked.

 

Will keep a check on the rates but at least i could purchase using credit card at no extra cost (confirmed this while talking to both Princess reps when querying OBC rate.....no charge for buying with Credit Card).

 

If anyone knows a way round getting the $2 for £1 i am ready to listen.

look on the bright side, you are guaranteed to get a minimum of $1.42 ... if the exchange rate improves you can just buy normally but if it dips, you cant lose :D

Absolutely right seb530.............i intend to look on the bright side. I shall be keeping a watch on the dollar rate safe in the knowledge of $1.42............and as we all know an awful lot can happen over 10 months with the world's economy.

Damn it, as I was reading this I was talking to friends in the UK, up to the point where we saw that it is tied to the rate at the time we booked and not at a fixed 2-1 rate I had close to £25k getting ready to hit my account and I am sure that by tomorrow afternoon I could of gotten £100k....

 

Oh well, though it would of been funny to see the casino cashiers face when I cash out my account :D

Just as well you did`nt. If you read the T&Cs, there is a $5000 per cruise limit at withdrawing OBC via your Casino account!

Hi to all,

 

I just rang Princess to see what we would be offered for our 8th Feb 2010 sailing on Ruby which we booked in January and was only offered $100 for £70 .............. :eek: eeeeeeeekkkkk ..... Looks like its not our luck definitely isn't in at the moment :(

 

Oh well we'll just hang on and keep everything crossed for a better rate before we sail.

 

Well done to those of you who are benefitting from their $2 for £1 rate though ..... Enjoy !!

I bought some more of this OBC yesterday for our cruise in July which we booked last july.

and I was told that is is according to what the rate is when you book your holiday to what rate you will get.

 

So if you only booked your holiday in January that is why you didnt get offered a very good rate because in January the rate had already dropped.

Whereas last July the dollar rate was high.

 

So if we book this yr for next yr and the dollar rate has not gone up we wont benefit next yr.

From my brief experience, I have learned that Princess offers better onboard inducements to book future cruises and has a better loyalty program.

 

I thought I would be loyal to Celebrity forever. Well, that has changed as you can see from my upcoming cruises.
