been reading these posts and was very interested in the varied experiences with Princess. it does appear to be dependent on the exchange rate at time of booking-aaaaaarrrrggghhh!!!!!:mad::mad: booked the Ruby for November 4th in January this year and our idiot Prime Minister:o:o has ruined the exchange rate so we are quoted $1.40. never mind, still looking forward to the cruise.:cool:

 

you'll enjoy it.. actually starting to wonder if I have order to much :o but once i take off tips, massage (!) and a shore excursion its not too bad. My understanding that any leftover can be transferred to casino account and taken out in cash from previous posts.

 

Interestingly, when we book it was advertised as 45% early discount but seems the prices havent moved (in fact they have dropped slightly)!

 

And yes, Brown is an idiot!

That was my experience too, but when she input all details to carry out the transaction it was coming up at $1.42.

just been on to Princess twice to 2 different reps. Michael at Princess confirms that it is relevant to the time of booking as to the exchange rate we get. it can go up if Gordon Brown:eek: vanishes or down if he pretends to save the universe so it is really swings and roundabouts. we got our cruise in January for a few hundred pound cheaper than if we had booked the same cruise last year. ho hum, why worry:D- 2 beers,no shoes, no shirt no problem.:D

Hi all. Just to confirm that I have just obtained the $2 to £1 OBC deal, which is a tremendous offer. But a friend of mine also travelling on the same cruise, but who only booked fairly recently, did not get the same offer. He was just given the current exchange rate, which is not really worthwhile. I wish I had known about this earlier for my cruise last October! Well done to the person who posted this tip!

Has anyone received written confirmation in writing that they are to get $2 to the £ (i.e e-mail).

I paid for some OBC last week and was told i would get $2 to the £,but I telephoned today to confirm it had gone on my OBC account and was told eventhough the amount I had paid in £'s was shown, it had not been converted to $ onto my Onboard account. I asked whether I would defintely get the $2/£1 but the person I spoke to couldn't confirm 100%. She did try to speak to someone in the "gifts" dept but it would appear they ad left for the day. (after 5PM). She gave me the direct tel. number to speak to someone tomorrow. She seemed to think the conversion would not be made until we were on board.

I don't believe this is right. The helpful guy I spoke to confirmed that I had purchased x$ and then converted it to pounds at the 2 to 1 rate. He even quoted the price in USD of the various vouchers I had purchased to make up the amount. He mentioned that there would be a card in the cabin confirming the purchase and that the amount would be deducted from my final bill. So, I remain optimistic that this is a very good deal and Princess will deliver! He did though warn that it was use it or lose it - no chance of the latter!

Sounds like we spoke to the same chap Pilgrim. He also asked for my cruise reference number and name - presumably so he could check out the date we booked. I believe it was last September.

 

Also he did state that we could purchase the OBC up to one week before we sail and it would remain at this rate. It is classed as a purchase too and not a cash advance - so there is no Credit Card commission to pay.

 

Just waiting for the Shore Excursions list to come out for my trip and then some quick mathematics and will buy my credit then.

I bought onboard credit last year for my Diamond Princess cruise from NZ to Australia.

 

The exchange rate in Oz was 65c to the US$ but Princess were offering 75c to the US$ so it was a no-brainer.

 

I was assured by the Princess Rep when I bought the credit that any unused credit would be returned to me via a credit card reversal.

 

Needless to say I spent every cent so never discovered whether this was the case. It does beg the question that how can Princess argue that because you fail to spend all your credit you lose it. I'm sure there would be a strong legal argument against this.

 

What Toto says is good advice. Open your casino account with your cruise card and even if you don't like to gamble you can just use it to withdraw money from your onboard account on the last full day onboard and cash in in the Casino. That's if you have any money left!!!!

 

That is intersting We have booked - via a USA Travel Agent two B2B cruises for Amazon next year. We booked in US $ but we have a UK credit card and could use this (free) Nationwide to purchase some more credit Would we be classed as australian purchasers, UK purchasers or american purchasers? and would this create a problem, :confused:

Windsor 26 I got my Nationwide cc statement yesterday. Apparently from July 2009 they are going to start charging for foreign transactions! The only reason why I chose that card. Kimberley

 

 

Believe this is only outside Europe ( For the moment) I got one for the same reason.

I was told by Princess today that to qualify for this high rate, the cruise must have been booked, generally last year, and sailing soon(ish). When they check your booking reference, that tells them if you qualify or not as the case may be.

 

If you have already contacted them and been offered the $1.428 rate, I am afraid thats the best you will get from them. It will not change, or improve in the run up to your cruise departure date.

I booked my cruise in November and depart in June, I would have thought I would have qualified at that.

If it 'will not change, or improve' then I have nothing to lose by waiting. If the tourist rate of exchange improves then I will buy dollars elsewhere, if it goes down I should be able to buy at Princess.

Hiya

 

I telephoned Princess this morning & got offered the same $2 to the £1 was told this would be available until about a week before sailing( i booked a Med cruise in May 2008) thought it was a fantastic deal considering.
