How is the sushi on the Carnival ships?

The sushi on the Fascination was not very good at all. I went into it not expecting much. However the rice was undercooked every time we had it and it was not sushi rice, just regular white rice. If the rice had not been so bad it would have been halfway decent, so I am sure sometimes it is ok.

"Maki" in the rolls that are usually wrapped in seaweed and rice.

We are sushi and maki afficianados. We found the sushi and maki pretty awful on Liberty. The rice was so overcooked and way too sticky. The flavors were just not to our liking. I suppose that anyone who does not have much experience with sushi might enjoy it.

I wonder if it is differnt from ship to ship?

I agree that it seems to be the rice that is the culprit. The ingredients in the roll were fine, if memory serves. The rice did not seem "right", though. Don't get me wrong, though. I usually grab a couple of pieces when I am going by, especially if there is no line.

Well I will tell you.....we had the sushi many times on various carnival cruises and thought well it is free and it was not horrible for free, so I would enjoy a few before dinner everynight and that was that, nothing to write home about. Well last december we strayed (sorry, it will NEVER happen again) and we were on Royal Carribean. They charge for their sushi and it was 2 step below the carnival's standard of sushi, so now Carnival's sushi is looking ALOt better to me , especially that it is FREEEE!!!

It is one thing to compare free sushi on carnival with on land grade sushi restaurats.......but when you have to PAY for it like on Royal Carribean you would of thought that they would make every attempt to have it come somewhat close to the grade of "at home" sushi.

So all that being said......enjoy the free so/so sushi on Carnival :) I sure will :)

You mentioned "free" five times.....I hate to break this to you but, nothing on Carnival or any cruiseline is "free"....LOL.....;);)

I am wondering if the sushi is any good? I'm no sushi expert or anything. Is it pretty good? Do they have any special rolls like the ones that have cucumber on the outside instead of rice?

I am also curious about any salmon dishes they have. I noticed that broiled salmon is part of the "Carnival Classics" options offered each night. Is this a pretty good salmon dish?

On the Elation last week, salmon only appeared once. Red snapper was always on the menu and could be ordered on the buffet.

You won't find Raw Sushi on most ships. There is Sushi bar open in the afternoons near the casino. Upstairs on the Lido on some ships there's a fish/chips bar that has probably the best 'raw' fish onboard. Cured Tuna served on watermelon cubes.

Of course some lines like Disney do take their sushi offerings a bit over the top with character placement.

Cured salmon is not raw.....It is the same process that is used to make lox. Curing cooks the salmon without heat. Just like lime juice cooks ceviche.....;)

That's why I put the "Raw" in quotes. The fish/chips bar served Tuna...not salmon. Is probably the closest a guest could get 'raw' shishimi type fish on board. But the Tuna is cured..like Lox. But still quite flavorful without a heat cooked texture.

I found it superior to the sushi offerings by the casino in the afternoons. No rice tho..just a slab of cured tuna on watermelon cube served with soy and wassabi. IMHO it was better 'sushi' than the sushi bar. Which does have some good things..the shrimp..the eel..the salmon..and California rolls.

I will be boarding the Glory ***** May 2nd with friends.

A few beers and then for me off to lunch. It is tradition with a ship that has a Fish and Chips......I will stop in the Lido (downstairs) for a half a loaf of French bread and grab the good butter. Then one deck up to Fish and Chips for two bowls of Bouillabaisse and a couple of orders of the cured tuna.....;)

PS: The next time instead of this " " use this..... .....lol

Now that's a good suggestion. You can get French bread at the lido?

Because the Bouillabaisse is really good..and all it's missing is good bread.

That is a yes on the bread though presliced. I will probably have lunch there at least four times. They make great fish and chips too.....Even have the malt vinegar......Prefect.

Keep the buffet and let me have the Fish and Chips upstairs every time at lunch.....

The tuna was absolutely delicious! I ate it almost every day.

Funny thing about the fish and chips eatery on Liberty. The first few days, there were no lines at all. Towards the end of the week, the lines were so long that we either had to wait quite a while or we just gave up. Word must have spread. Because I read CC way too much , I learned about the fish and chips. That was our very first meal upon embarkation. And my husband makes fun of me for visiting this website so often...

I am getting ready to go on the Holiday in a couple weeks, and I see that the Holiday is not one of the ships with a sushi bar, so does anyone know if they will have sushi anywhere? Does the Holiday have a fish and chips place? I don't see one on the deck plan, but I didn't know if one of the bars converted into it or something....
